Hi Barry, if you rip the dvd to your hard drive you can then play it through normal dvd software!

This may help

Dvddecrypter is probably one of the best bits of software however don't expect to just click a "go" button and sit back.

You will have to do a bit of reading.

You also have to remember that a DVD (depending how you rip it and what software/settings you use) will take up loads of hard drive space.

So you should really be thinking about then converting the ripped vob files into DIVX.

That will compress (agan depending on the quality you want) 4 or 5 gigs worth of movie into a 700 meg file and still look and sound pretty good.As you can imagine it will save you a ton of space to do this aswell.

However, once you have read up on how to do all of the above, you still have to remember that even on a decent spec PC this will take 2 or 3 hours to complete, so you need to ask yourself if you can really be bothered.

I personaly have quite a few films as divx files, my DVD player under the tv can play these so i just bung 4 or 5 of those onto a blank DVD and can select which one i like.

Some i also keep on my hard drive as ISO files or Bin/Cue files and simply play them with VLC player.

I guess it really depends on what you want to rip, how many you want to rip and what you want to do with them as to what direction it would be best to take.

I agree DVD decrytper is the way to go.

if you wanted to then put them back onto DVD (to back them up ;) )

Use DVDshrink......
