Howard Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Had a great day despite my engine giving out during the second session. Should've paid more attention to the ignition timing. Thanks to Matt Hillam for taking me out in his car and demonstrating that I can't blame my tyres for my lack of cornering speed. Gonna have to find a different excuse now. Howard Quote

Oooooch - is the head OK? is that just with the timing being out and it knocking? what engine (guessing a zetec) Quote

Howard Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 is the head OK? Nope. It'll need a big, big skim to get rid of the pitting. is that just with the timing being out and it knocking? Yes. It was pinking a bit under full throttle at high rpm. Not really noticed it much on the road. Done about 500miles since putting the Vauxhall XE in. Spent most of that getting the fuelling right (GSXR750 TBs and Megasquirt). Timing was next on the list. Didn't expect the pinking to have such a catastrophic effect so quickly. My fault entirely. Have to say that until the inevitable mishap the car was showing impressive speed down the straights and with the timing set right would probably have gone even better so the bike TB and Megasquirt combination can certainly deliver the goods. However, it must be set up properly, just the same as any other system. Just because it is a DIY installation doesn't mean you should cut corners. Obvious really, but a lesson learnt the hard way. I'm annoyed with myself mostly, because I know better, but for some reason chose to turn a blind eye. Strange. Anyway, I'm drifting off topic here so I'd better leave it at that. Howard Quote
