I have just bought a 30Gb iPod Photo for £229

They have them in certain branches of Dixons and Currys.

Impressions; Music quality is good even when iTunes compresses the data by a factor of 8 or so/very easy to use/intuitive interface/iTunes is easy to use and intuitive/the coolest gadget in the world (I know - I'm shallow  :p  )/earbuds are good but wind noise kills any sound above 40mph/battery life doesn't seem upto the claims (no real surprise).

If I was taking it on a long car journey I would get better headphones and an in-car charging/power arrangement.

Get an iPOD in the US Buzz, loads cheaper.

True but thay means you need a laptop with all your music on so you can upload it out there.

All my music is on my desk pc not the laptop.

I bought one of these, much cheaper than the Ipod and I think just as good. ;)

Hhhhmmmm I don't know.

I saw the Zen but it's not quite an iPod is it!

It's a bit like wanting a Se7en and buying a Westfield instead of a Caterham isn't it??

I'll be off now then  :p

Just bought a 20gb ipod from Argos, special sale offer £189inc. I went round all the shops and got the low down from the various experts and all said that the ipod is still the one to go for. You will need an extra charger as it is charged normally via the usb plug on the pc.

I didn't know you were off to the states buzz

Bought the Sony HD5 20Gb hard drive. Nice and small, stores enough tracks to last me some time :D  :D  :D,  40hrs play back time (compared to only 8hrs if your lucky with the ipod!!;), cheaper than the ipod to.

The new sonic stage a easy to use, if not better than itunes.

I have a 40gb Photo Ipod I got 12 hours out of the battery on a drive doen to the French Alps a couple of weeks ago. It was still going when I got there so no idea how much longer it would do.

That was with it on shuffle and not really playing with the controls that much. skipping tracks does reduce the battery life quite a lot.

Cheers

I got one of the Sony NW-HD3's, £250, 20Gb, lots of battery life and have no issues with the sonic stage.  Only downer is that whilst it plays MP3's OK you can't use all the preset equaliser settings unless you convert the tracks to sony's own ATRAC format. You can play about with the manual equaliser settings and save them though. Used 6 plus hours a day when I was flying over a sunny place with no snags. :t-up:

Get an Ipod I have a 60gb photo and it is the dogs.Use it for storage via usb so get the biggest memory you can afford. if you get an i-trip for it you can then use it any where just broadcast via FM striaght to your car stereo.

Also worth getting an in car charger ebay is best for these things.
