Wheels

Hi,

I've had a set of wheels stored away for a while.  They are a BK racing rims, 15 x 7 and I believe the offset is ET 36.5.  This was calculated from an overall wheel width of 203mm and a backspace of 138mm.

Firstly does this sound right?  Also if I did fit these wheels I would have to space them out so that they will not catch the trailing arms.  Currently they need to be spaced by atleast 10mm to clear the trailing arms.  Is there a maximum sized spacer that is used to space the wheels?

Finally, these rims do not have any tyres on them.  What width tyres would be most suitable?  I'll probably go for tyos or Eagle F1's and will mostly be used for road use.

I've done a search and the advice seems to be ET 38 for a 15 x 7 wheel on an SDV.  The wheels just seem to fit too far into the arches.

Thanks

Just to clarify...

Are you building an SDV? It's just that you refer to trailing arms, which suggest you actually have a live axled car...

If not an SDV, standard or wide bodied?

Sorry,

I'm building an SEW.  It's using the english axle and Ford 9 inch drums off an escort rs2000.

Thanks

With detachable wings??  If so I'd say that offset is off.  You need as close to zero as possible (english axle is quite narrow)

Look for a et10 or et15 and get a 10mm spacer.

yep, i'm using detachable wings.  I think they will fit with a spacer but they are so tooked under the wings that you have to get up close to see if there's any wheels on the car.  Would anyone advise using a spacer around 30mm?

This is a very well discussed topic here so definatly do a search, basically you'll need a hub centric spacer, eibach do them up to 30mm (think its a system 4 that you'll need costing approx £90ish)

I thought about this but have decided to go for wheels with a better offset and get as smaller spacer as possible.

I have got a 32mm spacer on my car at the moment and I barely use the car due to this fact. I keep expecting to carf in to the ground when I go even remotely fast in to a corner. buy some as close to ET0 as you can as suggested above! Thats what I'm going to do!

Hi,

I have SEW plus ETO compomotive CRX's with a 20mm ish  spacer and detachable wheel arches.

It fills the arch 100%. And I've been quite quick round some corners :D  No problems.

P.S.

£23 inc vat + del from Merlin Motorsport for 3/4" spacers and long studs  :)

Are they hub-centric though Geoff? If not, I'd be a bit dubious about using them personally...

Thanks for all your replies, I think it 's going to be more expensive but I'll have to look for a new set.  I was looking at OZ supperleggas, looks like a trip to halfrauds!!!!

Thanks

Im not sure that they do superleggeras in ET0, in fact I have heard a rumour that they have stopped making them full stop??

I wanted them for mine but could only find ET37 and ET35

about £11 for an axle set from rally designs :-)

Definitely not hub centric (generic 4 hole spacers) though although I suspect this isn't possible with less than about an inch spacer as the centre of the hub is about 3/4" long. (on the rear of a live axle anyway)
