catflap Posted April 28, 2002 Posted April 28, 2002 Im in the process of selling my MY99 scoob, the reason? I want a c******m/westy, I do love my scoob, just want a little more J A very nice chap, has a very nice westy, but the westy took a knock, not that bad a knock, but it will mean that a new chassis will be required among other things, nothing im not prepaid to build ( I quite fancy the idea of the build) The insurance company of the current owner have called ia a write off category C, this implies its fine for repairs. Here is the trouble lets say said car is a “N” reg, if I buy a new chassis and repair/rebuild the car and its as good as new, will A) it have the same number plate? B) Can I have a Brand new number plate? C) Will it be considered a write off if anyone checks (thinking about re sale) with HPI or similar. D) If I buy this write off, can I just build it and thus it’s a brand new car,? I.e new vim plate and all that? E) It has a very special cosworth engine, this may not pass the svg test if I Claim it to be a NEW car, (could I cat it, to pass?) If anyone knows the said car I am referring to, the owner knows im posting this J but I would like to keep their anonymity, unless they choose to post, they are more than welcome J Any help and advice here would be greatly apresheated Quote
johnfelstead Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 It's my car, no problem with all the facts being in the open at all. I have the original standard spec injectors, ECU chip, MAP sensor etc so the question on emisions aplies to a standard spec cosworth engine. The car does pass MOT emisions on the 330BHP spec kit but i think SVA is stricter? Quote
chrisbin Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 Sorry, don't know anything about SVA test but picked up your point that "car passes MOT emmisions test" - I understood that apart from visible smoke, there wasn't a test for kit cars Apologies if I'm missing something as a "newbie" Quote
Westfieldman Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 If its factory built it has the emmissions of the time age of engine if amature built it is indeed visiable smoke only after SVA for MOT's Does a rebuild have to go through SVA. If it does it just makes the job a little harder but should be easy if the factory are suportive of your rebuild origionaly this car was a factory built car check with DVLA and an SVA office tel 01482 881522 ask for an SVA tester John or Paul these people where very helpfull before my test and on the day. HarvSurrey Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 you can have 2 choices . 1. rebuild the car and ask for the new chassis to have a diff chassis number so you can in theory put it through the sva as a new build (can't see why thats not legal). 2 rebuild car on new chassis new chassis number and then tell dva that you have a new chassis .they then come and check you have done what you said .then get in contact with hpi and they will inspect it for £165 and give you a certificate to say it was written off but it has been rebuilt to a standard that hpi are happy with. if you hpi check the car then it will tell you that car was written off but was rebuilt correctly. option 1 you will get a new Q reg number and knowone will ever know that it was written off.......... we have just done this to a car and chose option 2 as it was less hassel than getting the car through an sva test. JulianS Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 Firstly I know nothing about any of this, but...... I do remeber a previous (similar) thread where the opinion was voiced that the factory could supply you with a new chassis but would stamp it with the old number, ring any bells anyone? Quote
HarvSurrey Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 They will provide that service for you or provide a new chassis number if you wish . A new one would be better at least a prospective buyer could confirm the rebuild more easily Quote
Kevin Wood Posted April 29, 2002 Posted April 29, 2002 Don't know if this is the same query as was on se7ens list but for the info, if the engine is pre-August 1995 it will be tested against 3.5 % CO and 1200ppm HC which a Cosworth should pass with no problems. Post August 1995, and you get into cat territory. You will need some documentation to support your claim of the engine age. Sounds like you should be able to do it without SVA though. Kevin Quote
