Type 9 Gearbox mounting rubber

This may sound a very silly question but worth me asking.

I have an SE Narrow body, built by me and getting ready to drop a new gearbox (type 9) and new engine in. with the current setup my gearbox knocks within the lower box section framework. my gearbox mounting is bolted to the underneath and not sat on the frame, can someone who has a SE just check if thiers is the same. I'm sure when i put it in there was no room to put it on the top but this would give me the clearance i need (25mm) i am also using a gear lever extension so not sure if this makes a difference. perhaps i'm just missing something!. just want to plan the transplant so i can make improvements. Ps it doesn't say anything in my build manual about the gearbox mounting, the onl;y reference is that the bell housing has to be 10-13mm from the bulkhead, which it is. any ideas..........

When fitting type 9 into an Se chassis the rear mounting plate  needs to be cut out and re-welded back in, a couple of inches further back, I have done this on several cars now.

Paul.

I seem to be okay with the position length ways. thew problem seems to be the height clearance. it may well be because i'm using the gear lever extension. this means the very top of the gearlever housing is very close to the top of the tunnel, hence why i bolted the gearbox mount onto the underneath of the frame (Not sat on the top) causing the gearbox itself to hit the frame either side when there is movement, i would guess if the lever extension was not fitted the gearbox could be fitted 25mm higher (Mount fitted on the top of the box section/frame) as the gear lever would be higher up the inclined tunnel, it currently sits on the horizontal part of the tunnel just in front of the handbrake.

Blimmey I wish i could explain better. may be able to take some pictures if i can jack the car up.

I didnt have a gear lever extension, still the top of the gearbox where the gear lever fits, was still proud of the top of the tunnell, i.e the hole in the tunnell was large enough to allow the back edge of the casing to protrude throught the ali sheet.. This was all covered by the gaiter.

So guess if gear lever extension is fitted this will be even worse. I always found gear lever was close enough without the extension.

Mine is just above the top of the tunnel too and I don't have an extension

gearbox mounting must fit on top of the lower frame then, what is also making it worse i modified the gear stick to a Quick shift, this adds another 10mm to the height. think if i lose this luxuary and mod the mount slightly i can move it up to guve the required clearance. cant do with the gearbox knocking around in the Tunnel, Cheers, still would like confirmation though if your mount is bolted to the underneath of the frame or sat on the top!

Rubber mount is bolted on top of flat plate welded between chassis rails. the rubber bit of the mount is V shaped and Gbox sits into the V of the mount and has a single bolt up through it.
