Westfield - Good substitute for 2 wheels ?

Hi Guys,

After just getting back from a trip to the nurburgring on two wheels.. I'm serioulsy thinking of switching to a westfield.. or at least a '7' type car..

I'm sure there are many of you that have been in the same situation ?? If i was to go to 4 wheels I would want excellent performance.. I'm not sure that a bike engine car would be the way to go for distance work and every day use ? I would want the car for wk end fun, track days... and maybe the odd trip to europe - go back over to the ring maybe !!

I probably won't do anything drastic till next spring, but will spend teh time researching and maybe see if there are any local clubs nearby ( N Ireland)

Bike are great for sure.. but the risk on the road is geting too great... I also race motorcycles anyway.. so can get teh ultimate thrill on two wheels that way.. would be nice to have in interest that the wife could share/enjoy instead of worrying everytime I head off on teh bike..

Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.. and pointers  :D

Welcome and to answer your initial question yes it could be a good move you may not die!! :p

You are however going to exept that the performance you have been used to is not going to be replicated in a 7 type car of whatever marque, and the closest to this would prbably be a bec and they are blisteringly quick if a little loud on the old hearing.

A cec will be more relaxed from a driving point of view but well down on the sort of performance that we are talking about but you can have a conversation in them :D of course there will be someone along soon who will say that if you can have a conversation in a westi then your just not trying hard enough! :D

best advice would be to get along too a meet and have a copule of rides in some ones car, were all relativly freindly and this would alow you to draw some comparison not sure though if there are many members in N Ireland ahh surley there must be.

Plus a Westfield will easily outcorner a bike, so the place where the performance/grin factor comes in is different. I have much fun chasing bikers around the twistes 'cos they're mostly slow, especially the born agains who normally give up until we hit a straight bit. But driving fast in a straight line is easy...

I had an R1 til very recently :(  Built my Westy about a year ago and havent looked back since. OK they aint got the straight line or top speed of a bike, but as Blatman says they corner like hell especially on roundabouts.

I went for a Duratec car engine, have driven BEC but decided that bike engines belong in bikes as I want the comfort and reliability of a car engine.

The people who drive Westys are like bikers, fun loving people who enjoy their hobbies.

Buy a Westy tis very recommended :D   :D   :D   :D

My ZX6 is now collecting dust, but that could be due to a new house and it needs a service :bangshead:  Nah, rather drive the Westie.   ;)  plus you can work on your tan :p

Why not join in the Westfield V Cateringvan thread. Tea, coffee and Hob Nobs being served on there. :D  :D

Look on a westy or any similar car as a 4 wheeled m/bike, and yeah it is great fun chasing the bikes around the twisties, but come the straights and in traffic, it's game over, cos the car car is still 5feet wide and not 2ft like the bike :arse:  :arse:  :arse:

I always think of it this way

the difference in distance under acceleration on a bike say from 60-120mph

is easily compensated if you keep off your brakes for 1-2 sec longer at 120mph  :D  :D

all depends on the road

Personally love bikes, never bit the bullet cos of safety issues to many friends with to many scars  :(  :(

But the westy might not be as much of a compromise as you think

You're all missing the other main point...

Drive down Newcastle (Co. Down) high street on a Sunday afternoon.  How many times do you get pointed at and waved at by bystanders when you're on the gixer?  Now try the same test in a Westfield...

Job done; Another convert...  :t-up:

And yes, try nise7ens.net for a few contacts... we're a friendly bunch, despite the odd C*******m

Was a biker, got cossie Westfield no comparison. Westfield much better. Fast a f..k corners better, will probabley live longer for getting it, wife happy, kids love it, Gtis, Evos and the odd supercar eaten when you feel like it....change, you know you want to.. Lost too many good mates to stay with the bike. Who gives a GSXR/R1/Blade etc a second look these days?
