david matthias Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Hi Guys After a bit of advice please. I am considering buying a cat D write off car to rebuild how much of a problem is it to clear this car once rebuilt & how much of problem is it on resale obviously it will reduce the value but will it make it impossible to sell? The car is a vx220 non turbo. Thanks David Quote
chrisbin Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 will it make it impossible to sell? no, not impossible, but as you say, the value is certainly affected.....as to the rest, sorry, don't know, but I've wondered the same things in the past...... Quote
JeffC Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 selling will depend on quality of repair, theres a few lads up here still do the cat d stuff, they always sound cheap when they first buy them but to be fair by the time they are repaired , I could get them a proper car with a few more miles on ... unless you have access to free labour and a source for 2nd hand parts I would doubt if you will save much on doing it this way...to make a saving personally i would rather buy a higher mileage car.. once recorded by the insurance it will stay recorded with HPI. as for value, i always reckon a damged car is valued at its trade price less 30% as a selling price.. steve wilson Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Im having to sell my merc 320 sl as my van died so i need to get another. I didnt get to do much to it bt still found loads of second hand parts available. Such a shame im not able to finish it. Its on EBAY at the moment and ive had an unbelievable amount of interest. In the first 36 hours its had 860 views and numerous phone calls etc so i think it shud sell for the reserve. Quote
