We are currently planning a road trip around Wales in September in the Westie and so could do with some hints.  Heres a rough route plan:

Sat and Sun West Wales and Tenby.

Mon - drive to North Wales (probably coast road)

Tues - Day in North Wales

Weds - Drive to lake district

Thurs - Day out in Lakes,

Fri - Drive to mid wales (Lake Vyrnwy)

Sat - Return to Cardiff.

So heres where I need your help, can you offer any answers to these questions:

What tools should I take?

Are there any "must do" roads on the route?

Are there any roads we should avoid?

Are there any must pack items we should take?

How do I guarentee good weather (in Wales!!!;)?

We are really looking forward to it, all the accomodation is booked and the Westie is running nice.  So pass on your helpfull hints................................

Whereabouts in North Wales will you be?

There are some good roads that skirt most of the way around Anglesey, we had a good run there when we took our Westfield up. Also the roads around the Llyn peninsula (to Aberdaron and Pwllheli) are fairly good too.

Good weather in Wales? You're having a larf aren't you? :D

We have family in Beddgelert, so are staying there a couple of nights.  Route from there is to the lakes.  If anyone knows how to get from North Wales to the Lake District on good roads, but avoiding motorways then please let me know!!!

I wouldn't call them good roads, but when we drove from my parent's place near Wigan to North Wales, we went through Runcorn, over the bridge and then followed the coast road (the old A55) all along the top of the coast.

This was a late summer evening, we got some great looks driving through all the towns along the coast :)

Declassified B road from Caerleon to USK 9 miles of bendy, cambered mad road such a massive accident rate it had its limit just reduced to 50mph, but there are no camras.

B4598 USK to Abergavenny, favourite of the motorbike clubs, much the same as above but less "nasty" bends although slightly narrower.

A4136 Saunton rd into monmouth over the forrest of Dean hair pin one after the next, gets the caravan brigade out so good in early morning.

B4233 Rockfield rd Monmouth to abergavenny, fast swooping good fun also popular with the bikers so occassionally the plod with guns on it.

A482 All of it from its beginning off the A40 at Llanwrda all the way to Aberrarron I killed a set of tyres on this road its great, no camras and even less traffic except sunday afternoons. :D

Sorry I didn't get back to you before but If you are going north from Tenby then the coast road is great but full of Caravans.

The road from Beulah to Llanwrtd (I think...anyway the B road from Beulah) is like a roller coaster and is quite scary at speed.

The mountain roads ( A485) up past Carmarthen is pretty fab too.

Over the top of the Presellis is lovely and fun to drive as well ( be careful not to hit any sheep)

See you at the Tenby Run
