Westfields Rock On Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 why is Ferrari going to use the 2.4 v8 now? Quote
Martin Keene Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Why not? Don't understand the question. Quote
Westfieldman Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 In preperation for next year In the past Ferrari have been the team that has changed the quickest to new rules etc. There has not been not been big changes in the cars for a while and all the other teams have cought up Ferrari will be back on top next year [if B E carn't fix it in time for them this year] Quote
Al Yupright Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 They've all got to use 2.4 v8s from next year, apart from minardi and I never could work out how they got out of it... Or are you saying Ferrari are going to use it for the rest of this year? That'd be a damn clever thing for them to do, but I doubt it'd be allowed... Quote
Blatman Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 And because they have no chance of any championship wins this year which means they can test the new engine under *actual* race conditions rather than simulated ones. However, if the arrogant kraut scores any decent results, expect that smug look to get even more annoying than it it already is... Quote
Westfieldman Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 WRO read Blatman's post Here half way down Quote
DavidR Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 They've all got to use 2.4 v8s from next year, apart from minardi and I never could work out how they got out of it... extract from proposed 2006 Technical Regs. para 5.2 "For 2006 and 2007 only, The FIA reserves the right to allow any team to use an engine complying with the 2005 engine regulations, provided its maximum crankshaft rotational speed does not exceed a limit fixed from time to time by the FIA but restricted in performance by such means as the FIA shall from time to time determine so as to ensure that such an engine will only be used by a team which does not have access to a fully competitive 2.4 litre V8 engine." I think the concern was that the "customer engines" would not be available and that only "works" engined teams would be able to field a car. And so, Minardi appear to have decided not to do anything about getting a V8 for 2006/7. David. Quote

If so Ferrari will only be throwing out this seasons V10, hence no option for a V8. But I am sure in the rules somewhere that anyone can buy a full or part complete car from another competitor??? Or have I dreamt that one up? Dan Quote
DavidR Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 But I am sure in the rules somewhere that anyone can buy a full or part complete car from another competitor??? Or have I dreamt that one up? Dan I think you dreamt it or are thinking of the proposal for Rules post 2008. As I understand it each team must have sole intellectual rights ownership to the chassis and design of the car. Which means you can't buy a chassis and race it in F1. The new proposal revokes that rule in favour of purchased chassis or own design as each team desires. David. Quote
darthurs Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 CAR ACQUISITION ** - Teams will be free to buy a complete car or any part of a car from another constructor - How constructor’s points are to be allocated will be clearly defined after further discussion Reason - to enable a team to buy a complete car, or any part of a car, from another constructor. As a result teams will be able to save considerable sums of money on the design and development of their cars ** For the purposes of the submission to the World Council these Sporting Regulations will be included as an addendum to the draft Technical Regulations. This is where I read it... Click me Dan Quote

Blatman Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Yeah, I'd still dislike him. His country of origin has nothing to do with it. He is very talented, and I've never questioned that. I admire his abilities. I don't admire the application of those abilities on occasion... Oh, and there are plenty of English folk I don't like, although to be fair, *most* of them are politicians...
