wildwesty Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 G/F has pre-booked a weekend away (this weekend) and its just me and the boy. 10 month old! Quote
Tomcat Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I voted yes but having 4 boys I would probably say he won't like the wind and the noise, if you could drive at 30 mph and it isn't very far, go for it, mine have all been out in mine - not quite as young as at 10 months though!! Take him for a test drive - other than that I imagine SWMBO won't be impressed!! Quote

Martin Keene Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Not worth the risk man... Just think how you'd feel if something went wrong. Quote
wildwesty Posted August 11, 2005 Author Posted August 11, 2005 Mmmm, yes i see ya point.... A tin top at a kit car show is a bit of a risk! Quote
Peter Cox Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 ...but I agree with Martin. I may not wear a helmet when aerohooning, but my kids (8yo and 3yo) will no longer go in the Westie until they fit the seats and belts. Each to their own though. Quote
Ian Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Definately go for it, but maybe when he's a little older. I've been taking my son (aged 2.5) out in the westfield since he was about 1. He loves it. Going to the swing park / beach / zoo / railway for the first few trips has probably set up some sort of connection in his brain which may help his enthusiasm! A few things to think about though: - Make sure you're happy with his car seat in the Westfield. Getting one that fits (well) is difficult and may require some faffing around. Experiment in advance. If yours does fit well, please tell me what it is and I'll go and buy one! - I tend to avoid motorways and high RPM due to the noise, although the louder the noise, the faster he goes to sleep. - He starts to get bored after about 30 miles these days - you can't really maintain a conversation in a Westfield. As someone mentioned, there is a risk. Nothing in life is without risk however. People get killed in tin tops, but we feel that the risk from driving 12K miles/year (or more) is acceptable. Compared with this, I feel that the risk from a few miles in a Westfield is insignificant. Ian Quote
Emma Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Was this actually supposed to be a serious question? Sorry but I must be having a blonde moment, thinking people would actually consider sticking a 10 month old in a Westy!!! Quote

As a parent i think we all know the real answer. yes...don't invest £250,000 in the first 20 years of offspring time. Have the chop and invest most of the money in wine, women and song. The go and spend the rest frivolously. Risk is a spectrum, not a switch. Quote
