Thread hijack......

After passing the SVA and the car is on the road, assuming non-new parts have been used, will the vehicle need an MOT straight away or will it only need one after 3 years???

If it's on a new plate then it won't need one for 3 years, but if it's on a Q then as far as I know it needs one straight away, someone correct me if I'm wrong.........  :durr:

GREAT that makes me even more determined to get an age related plate.

Might be wrong here........

If its an age related plate it will still need an MOT (unless its 52 to 05).  Only if its a new reg 05 till end of Aug, 55 01 Sept onward will it be 3 years for a MOT.

Stand back and await correction!

Yes that's correct, New plates = new car so 3 years for mot

Age related plate eg using sierra donor car = not new so requires an mot straight away.

Mine was registered April 2004 on a Q and it didn't need an MOT when I re-Taxed it!!

That's the only bit I was unsure of, "Q" plates. Was it a slip up by the post office or is it 3 years for a "Q"?

For £20.00 per year is it worth not having one

I'm on a Q and didn't need one straight away; sort of assumed I'll need one at the end of the first year, but don't know for sure.

GREAT that makes me even more determined to get an age related plate.
the advantage of a Q though, is that when you do come to need an MOT, you'll have a much easier time.
