I.S.M Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Hi I am back from Radical Festival at Cadwell having had an amazing time racing an SR4 in the Matador Tyres Radical Biduro Championship. You be pleased to hear that the car is in one piece and the owner was wearing a smile when I left. The drive came courtesy of Ian Bankhurst – the car owner, who was introduced to the idea of me driving the car by Nav-Sport. For which I am truly grateful. Nav-Sport worked alongside PKM to run myself and Ian at this years annual Radical Festival. Last Thursday rolled around quickly and we were booked for a days testing. Friday was qualifying with Saturday and Sunday being race days. The weekend was split into 2 rounds of 2 races so Ian opted to do Saturday, and I raced both races Sunday. The testing went well already we were both lapping below Ians previous best – aided by the latest Stack logging system. Have to say the predicted lap time feature (as displayed on stack whilst on current lap) is particularly useful. We were short of nothing, even Tommo was on hand to offer his usual professional level of support – pi55 taking! Friday qualifying didn’t go so well. The nature of Cadwell, particularly the mountain gave the gearbox a hard time, and it eventually packed up. Ian managed to complete his 20min qualifying session with minor disturbance. An hour later was my qualifying session – one lap in and the drive train was knocking like mad. I raced into the pitlane ‘Cole Trickle’ style and PKM + Nav-Sport got to work. They assured me they knew what the problem was and I was ordered to completye 3 laps to guranatee qualification for the race. My Helmet in-built Peltor ear defenders meant Paul had to use all of his Bradford persuasion to get the message across – much to shock of the other crews on the pit wall. A ‘Cole Trickle’ exit from the pitlane (2 massive 11’s) and I completed 3 laps with a deteriorating drive train – meaning I qualified 13th from 22 cars – doh! Friday evening was a text bookly executed engine change in time for Saturdays races in which Ian competed. In fierce opposition and in one race a blinding start Ian finished 10th and 9th respectively (Nav-Sport will confirm). Sundays races for me were amazing, lapping 40 seconds a lap quicker than in my race car, I finished 10th (having dropped back to 16th – due to fear of the pack and incurred damage into coppice) in race 1. And 7th in race 2. Not bad for my first ever outing in the car. Many thanks to Ian for use of the car, Nav-Soprt for being my ambassador, and PKM for running the car with Rob. Better pictures to follow, heres some I scanned in. Brolly dollys arnt what they used to be! Quote
