DickieB Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 UN ones are normally Toyota Landcruisers. Anyway, enough on cars, given your budget - can I have a job please? Quote
felters Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 Why not keep the Merc estate as the tow barge and widen your choice....... That's a good point - the conversation went something like this... Me "Darling why don't we swop cars and you use the Disco for the school run and I'll use your Merc for a year or so as it hasn't done any mileage" SWMBO "***k off" Me "well I could just put a tow hitch on yours and then buy something smaller as my daily driver. I'll just use the Merc when I'm towing?" SWMBO "***k off" Oh well. Quote

Lets get rid of the old Disco rattler......buy something that we both like.....(just for starters, how about an A4 cab) and then I'll use the Merc for towing when I need it...... No good? Quote

felters Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 too tall for a Pathfinder... SWMBO has already had three SL's (seven Mercs in total including a G Wagen awesome piece of tackle) and just likes the car she has... her current one is an Avantgarde an almost has less clearance than my Westy. Not sure how it would be for towing anyway... Her view is I was mug enough to buy a Disco - and I can 'kin well live with it. She's all heart. I had a ruptured appendix a few years ago. She told the surgeon that I was a p**f for complaining that it hurt... Quote

chrisbin Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 How about one of those new Nissan Murano's....... 350Z engine.... You didn't mention consumption being an issue in your original post.....!!!! Edited to add: Actually, I've just found quite a few Touaregs in the VW network between £24k and £26k. Manual or Auto (don't know your preference) 2.5Tdi or 3.2 V6 Petrol. They're great vehicles and streets ahead of the Disco'. The 2.5 will obviously do better on fuel and with the addition of a TUNIT will perform pretty well too. The 3.2 V6 Petrol is nice and smooth, but drinks the fuel a bit.... I reckon a great compromise between 4x4/towing ability/luxury car. example here Quote
Blatman Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I was thinking that earlier. Good call I reckon Quote
simon4007 Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Itsa nicea! I love the Murano, lovely looks!! And that engine!!! I might be going for a Nissan Navara when I next look for something to pull my car around!! Quote

Buzz Billsberry Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 The mileage is racking up on my Disco TD5... looking for a replacement. Needs to be a decent tow vehicle, quiet at motorway cruising speeds and not leave me feeling like I've just gone three rounds with Mike Tyson after a 500 mile round trip. The siren voices keep whispering Amazon or LS430... given my requirements what would you spend £25 grand on? You can buy a house for that kind of money here in Oldham You'll get two in Rochdale!! buzz Quote

hilux Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 what would you spend £25 grand on? A deposit on a house as an investment...... I certainly wouldnt waste it on a car for running around. As long a you dont mind driving an older car buy a jap import lancruiser VX 4.2 turbo diesel for about 5-6K, dont witter on about the diesel costs as they are more than offset against the depreciation They are immaculate, low mileage and have another 200,000 miles left in them if serviced properly. I have and I know all my houses will still be around when the VX `cruiser is gone. You`ll get most of your money back too when you sell it Quote
chrisbin Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 A deposit on a house as an investment...... Can't drive that, though..... And not much fun driving jap import lancruiser VX 4.2 turbo diesel imho Quote
