Which barge would you buy?

The mileage is racking up on my Disco TD5... looking for a replacement.

Needs to be a decent tow vehicle, quiet at motorway cruising speeds and not leave me feeling like I've just gone three rounds with Mike Tyson after a 500 mile round trip.

The siren voices keep whispering Amazon or LS430... given my requirements what would you spend £25 grand on?  :D

The best equipped Mondeo TDCi Estate you can find and spend the rest (£10K-£12K) on some upgrades or a classic car for the summer, or both.  What more do you need ?  :p  ;)  :D

25k? :0 I would chuck my job in and go backpacking around the world for 5 years. (50,000miles with out that Mike Tyson feeling)

Hmmm...presumably it has to double as your everyday car as well as tow-barge.....?? Otherwise some of the suggestions above have to be the way to go.

So, if you're looking for serious suggestions then I think we need a bit more info about your requirements. After all LS430 and Amazon, aside from having same parentage, are pretty different...................... ???  ???

top of the range BMW/Audi/Merc diesel estate?? Or do you need a huge 4x4 for something???

My brother is looking at changing his Disco for a Nissan Patrol. Test drive was quite good, plenty of room in the back seats I'm 5'11 and was ok. Its got 7 seats, ( 2 foldable in the boot space like the disco)

And you can get a 3 year old for around £14k saving a bit of cash for upgrades on your Westie! Bonus!!

in a 4x4 only ones i like are the X5 3.0d sport, very good   but expensive, you will be looking at a 3 year old one in your budget, or a newish  ML 270 cdi, both do a cracking  diesel with good power and economy... after a disco td5 to be fair  most things will feel quicker  and will be a  lump more economical !!!

If not 4x4 highly recomend the new 5 series bmw diesel..its unreal, performance and economy and has good tow weights..

:t-up:  :)

SWMBO already has a Merc E320 estate... her third so been there done that.

The LS 430/Amazon are different but both are large comfy bits of kit and well made. And there's a Toyota dealer in the next village so servicing wouldn't be too tricky...

The 4x4 bit is really only useful in winter as we spend time in a remote part of Wales and dogs/kids really dictate a biggish car.

Nissan Patrol... hmm... that the thing you see in all the footage of UN stories?

I know that you'd be coming from a Disco, but even so the ML is a real truck.. :(  :(  X5 is indeed good, but expensive.

We have the Touareg which is a fantastic bit of kit, but not sure if you'd find one in your budget as it hasn't been around long enough...

Why not keep the Merc estate as the tow barge and widen your choice.......???
