Rick S Posted August 1, 2005 Author Posted August 1, 2005 Just got back from testing the rebuilt HT out. My God! You don't half get lazy riding a full-susser! I only popped down the road a bit and what-a-difference. Sets of stairs become scary(er) again. Uphills become a test of leg strength rather than a boing-fest. Kerbs become thing you have to jump up! I'm beginning to wonder whether I need to ride the HT for a bit to "relearn" what I've taken for granted... Steveb - you might have started something here! Quote
david.c Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 £3k is easy to blow on a bike before extra's Halfords Full Suspension Bike £99.99 complete with bell & reflectors David Quote
wookie Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 I've got a bontrager pro comp, old school steel frame that i used to race xc with, looking to get a full suspension on next bike, (prob a trek) after i've had a go on my mates full suspension rocky mountain, was like riding a rolls royce!!, try pauls cycles, out in Norfolk sells off last years models at nice big discounts I have a giggle when people look at the westfield with a MTB frame and wheels cable tye'd to the roll bar when going out with that lot on the back Quote
nre Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Mmmm, there's at least one cyclist who DOESN'T have a Westfield too... but that's another story! Mmm, guess that'll be me... Hello Rick, back from holiday now... Quote
joff69 Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 If your still interested in a GT have you tried: J.E James at Rotherham ( Stores at Sheffield and Chesterfield aswell) Ask for Nigel, he's the manager and what a top bloke. Wont sell you a bike for the sake of it, if you look a to$$er on it he'll tell you! Bough my last 3 bikes from there aswell as my brothers and riding buddies. What about Evans cycles, lad at work has just bought the avalanche 1.0 from Evans told delivery possible upto 7 working days, 2 days later turned up!. Quote
Rick S Posted August 2, 2005 Author Posted August 2, 2005 Mmmmm, thanks for that - had forgotten about JE James! (I'm less complementary about one of their branches though - I'll try the Rotherham one! Quote
Jed Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Stick with a nice steel hardtail and learn to ride properly again. I've a Klien Adept Pro as my 24hr race bike and it's great for that provided one isn't upto ones axles in Malvern mud. I generally ride either a steel Fuquay fixed wheeler or my Yo Eddy. The YE has such a compliant rear end that I don't need full sus so much. Did SiTS last year on it as a pair and I still felt good at the end of the race although the pics may say otherwise. HT = less maintenance. Jed Quote
Rick S Posted August 2, 2005 Author Posted August 2, 2005 Aaaaaaaah, Yo Eddy - that's a blast from the past! D.O.N.K.I.S N.O.B anyone, or D.O.G.S B.O.L.X ? Eeeeeee, we were pooer mind, but we were appy. Sithee. *slap* Quote
Martin Keene Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Her Indoors has just bought an Orange Gringo, and then spec Hope M4's for it. I have to say it really is a superb piece of kit. She'd kinda of made her ming up before we went looking and I keep trying to point her in the direction of others to make sure it was the right decision. One comparison that stuck out was a Marin (forgotten which model) but it felt like a Halfords special compared to the Orange, it really does feel like something more than £600 worth. And Orange only make 2000-3000 (total) a year, which is nice... Quote

blankczechbook Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 if you're keen on bikes that crack - why not try a 90's Scott Endorphin ?? hard tail with a little boing - good for a few years and then "crack" think everyone who i knew bought them had them replaced under guarantee and then flogged off fast..... apart from that - they were great frames! good for learning about crack propagation. Think they were called Prestige at the time. Tange frame. Snap-a-mundo on the downtube around the bottle holders... Think they've got better since! Thanks Martin - will have a look. Used to ride with a 18 stone guy who cracked his top tube on one of those old treks with carbon tubes into alu lugs. He wrapped a small sheet of aluminium around it, pop-riveted it and rode it for another 3 months until the BB fell off.... Wouldn't be surprised if he's in the club now! /Bodgetastic mate Quote
JonnyBoy Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 If you want to buy a new bike.. Canada's the place to buy! Giants are about 30% cheaper, rocky mountains are 40% cheaper! Buy a bike here and it covers the cost of your flight! Whistler are selling their 05 rental bikes now for 2200 canadian.. this is about 900 quid?? Stab frame set, fox dhx4.0, deemax wheels, sram xo drivetrain, 888r's raceface crankset! Stupid money! Let me know if you want any prices! Quote
