Chris Elworthy Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 I was intending to buy a second hand westie, but on a visit to the factory my other half said "why don't we just buy a new one? It'll only be a few thousand more?".Is that a first? I don't know how to break this to you, but I think you married a bloke ! Quote
windy Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 I had to comment because you are all "barking up the wrong tree" with your postings about kitchen improvements. Modern appliances have some very useful attributes in relation to the build of ones Westfield. Here are some alternative uses for some common kitchen appliances: 1) Dishwasher - Gets those oily bits spotlessley clean with virtually zero effort, especially if you overdose on "Finish". The best degreaser i've tried - beats "Gunk" anyday. 2) Kitchen sink - Ideal for filling a bucket with soap suds for washing the car. 3) Oven - ideal for curing 2 pack paint. Also good for heating up gearbox casings prior to reassembling bearings. 4) Freezer - good for shrinking bearings / outer races etc prior to asembling the said gearbox in 3). 5) Microwave -Excellent for welding metal parts of for indoor fireworks display. Also good for heating pies / hot drinks during breaks from the build of the Westfield. 6) Kitchen table - Used for building sub assemblies for the Westfield before the weather gets warmer in the garage. Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 Mrs Westy, have you any idea how many pairs of shoes you can getfor £200 on Oldham market? Chris new nose hhhhmmmmm at nearly 50 its new everything she needs :0 I just hope she doesent read this :0 Quote
Nick M Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 So Windy, about using this dishwasher for degreasing.... Should I wait for the salt to run out before cleaning up the cylinder head ? And do you just use normal dishwasher tabs ? First hurdle to overcome is getting rid of SWMBO for long enough to clean the head and then tidy up the dish-washer before she gets back !! The oven and freezer have already been pressed into service with the bearings / cam pullies - makes life *so* much easier but the neighbours do give you some odd looks when you go rushing from the oven to the garage with a baking tray of car bits.... Neil H Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 I built my Westie myself over a number of years. That way I could order bits over the period that arrived in boxes to which she had no idea of their actual cost ;-) I also manage all of our bank account details on my PC without showing the missus how to use the software! In total it’s cost me £13,000!!! Even though the car was completed 2 years ago and been on the road it still gets lavished with new bits. Last weekend we did an owners club scenic drive and met at a plush 17th century hotel, just as a rendezvous point and for cream teas in the afternoon. The missus looked at the tariff for the top room for one night… she choked at the £400 expense for just bed and breakfast. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I’d just spent that much on ordering aero screens and a new tonneau cover!!! I also work on the principle of "one item" i.e. I bought 1 Westfield, you can buy 1 pair of shoes ;-) Quote
Mrs Westy Posted April 9, 2002 Author Posted April 9, 2002 I also work on the principle of "one item" i.e. I bought 1 Westfield, you can buy 1 pair of shoes ;-) Unfortunately for Westy I did 'A' level maths and can immediately see a flaw in that plan... Mrs Westy PS Nice to see you posting instead of lurking for a change Mr Boyce.. Quote
smayo Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 Well my other halfs last pair of shoes cost £350 (yes that is right £350!), and I can't even complain because of the amount I've spent (and still want to spend). Oh well, just more time required at the office. (and less time out for a blat). smayo Quote
peterg Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 Take her to Florence in Italy...my wife bought seven pairs of shoes/boots there last year and it only cost about £100 a pair - I've now got my own back though as I've persuaded her that the alloy hubs/4 pot calipers/drilled disks/new instruments are all essential for this year AND I've just got a Brian James Minno trailer as well Quote
Mrs Westy Posted April 9, 2002 Author Posted April 9, 2002 There, see. It's all about compromise... :0 Mrs Westy Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 You lot need to get up to Oldham market for your shoes Quote
westy Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 Burn all women's shoes as well...make women walk around in their socks (Preferably topless as well, especially if their fit) The money saved can then be spent on real assets like performance car parts. Quote
Carl Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 Mine's a Locost and was built for £250. I've even got the book to proove it. Oh and this [...............................................] is also 9 inches! Carl Quote
Captain Colonial Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 Oh and this [...............................................] is also 9 inches! Depends on the size of your monitor, doesn't it? Quote
