Mrs Westy Posted April 6, 2002 Posted April 6, 2002 I couldn't help but notice that our Westfield is costing significantly more than Westy's original costings. It goes something like this: W: Can I buy a Westfield can I can I can I It'll cost £3000 maybe £5000 tops, and I'll be sooooo happy please please Mrs W: Hmmmm....well ok then, but you had the last new car so I want a new car before you go buying yourself a toy, plus of course we are planning to move, so let's be sensible and wait until we have a garage and driveway long enough first W: Yay! Soon came the fateful day when Westfield World popped through the letterbox, and there it was.... the advert.... W: Can I buy this one, can I can I can I oh go on pleeeease Mrs W: But it's £11,000 dear, and I haven't got my new car yet, and we haven't moved house yet W: Yes but it's much newer than those other cheaper ones so it won't cost so much in the long run...and anyway I'll bargain. And if we wait until we've moved and you have a new car, it'll be the wrong time of year to buy a Westfield... Mrs W (after much hmmming and negotiating terms & conditions): Well OK then Now, 5 months on after purchase, and following tunings, new wheels, a variety of tools and various bits and pieces, I am advised that we need a new exhaust, and to get a new exhaust we need to stop it backfiring, and to stop it backfiring we need to get rid of the carbs and get ...err... the other thingies instead. You get the picture. I have at this point been a big meanie and put my foot down, and being a typical wifey, demanded that I get a new kitchen in our new house (still not moved, still not got new car either) before said work can be done to car. So anyway, to cut a long story short(ish), I reckon we've spent/allocated to spend about £10K more than I was told it was going to cost. Just out of curiosity, how much more has your Westie cost than you promised your significant other? And did they get their new kitchen... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted April 6, 2002 Posted April 6, 2002 During my 10+ years of owning a Westfield and becoming involved in club stuff - I've seen and heard some "can of worms" being opened .......... But this ...... is by far the biggest Anyone brave enough to own up to this is gonna end up paying for a new kitchen, carpets, dining suite and lounge furniture before long. Quote
Blatman Posted April 6, 2002 Posted April 6, 2002 I make Blatgirl go halfers............... :0 :0 If she reads this, I'll be for it :0 :0 Quote
peterg Posted April 6, 2002 Posted April 6, 2002 Eerrm, let's just say quite a lot - just got a 2nd hand BJT Minno trailer as well so that's the 'new' garden landscaping out for a start!! I keep saying "if I buy it this year then I won't need anything next year" but hope she's forgotten that by the time next year comes Quote
Westfieldman Posted April 6, 2002 Posted April 6, 2002 £13,128.42 to date from bare metal chassie to finished car excluding petrol. see my car at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.jones37/index.htm Paul. Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted April 7, 2002 Posted April 7, 2002 So far it cost me a new Kitchen in our last house (only last Easter), a new house (which also apparently needs a new Kitchen), and a new Car. During my build, Mrs. Hitler kindly nipped into Cosworth Racing to collect my Pistons and Matthew or Colin gave her my invoice copy, to which she replied "£ 90 Each !!!!, does he really need four ?!!!" Been "open book" ever since. Quote
Nick M Posted April 7, 2002 Posted April 7, 2002 Let's just say that the new kitchen I had to fit as a result of getting an engine delivered (see recent copies of Westfield World) cost significantly less than building and installing said engine in the car. It got to the stage where I felt sufficiently guilty that I offered to get new carpet, curtains and a couple of new bits of furniture for the lounge. And I still haven't equalled the cost of the car related purchases ! In fact it's not even close :0 Quote
Nick M Posted April 7, 2002 Posted April 7, 2002 And while we're at it, I notice kitchens are a recurring theme ! Now why, if our SWMBOs always complain about being in there, do they all want new kitchens ? If you don't want to be in there, why not make do with the existing one rather than get a shiny new one which will be fine until the novelty factor wears off (4-6 weeks by my reckoning !). That way you can free up valuable funds for more worthy acquisitions (car related of course ). Quote
mmmmdonuts Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 I was intending to buy a second hand westie, but on a visit to the factory my other half said "why don't we just buy a new one? It'll only be a few thousand more?". Is that a first? Quote
Nick M Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 Is that a first? Yes. And probably a last too !! Quote
westy Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 Mrs Westy nagged - "So anyway, to cut a long story short(ish), I reckon we've spent/allocated to spend about £10K more than I was told it was going to cost. Just out of curiosity, how much more has your Westie cost than you promised your significant other? And did they get their new kitchen... " burn the kitchens and mod the Westfields Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 New Kitchen, £7.000 :0 New Car, £8.500 And My little yellow Westfield only cost £14.500 :0 And now it needs a new nosecone £189.00 how do i get away with that one? Quote
Mrs Westy Posted April 8, 2002 Author Posted April 8, 2002 ..Give Mrs H £200 to spend on shoes. Whichever ones she wants. Even if they consist only of a 3" heel and 2 bits of string and cost £70. Don't even think about saying "howwwww much" when she proudly displays them to you. Quote
markboyce Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 Mrs Westy, I am sure an agreement can be reached, where westy doesnt need to spend so much money on the car but with you wanting a new house, kitchen etc its only fair that westy gets the bits for his car.....as westy says.. burn the kitchen cheers a fellow westfield owner p.s. (westy) the gearbox is for sale if you want it? Quote
chazpowerslide Posted April 8, 2002 Posted April 8, 2002 Chris, that was classic I laughed so much I fell of the sofa !!! Quote
