Chasmon
Hi all, Just wanted to know if anyone has had the experience of fitting a Duratec sourced from a salvage yard. I am looking at going down the Duratec route rather than the Zetec more specifically a Focus ST170. Using a power plant that has so much power as standard appeals to me although I think I may struggle to find a cheap one. Apart from sump, Engine mounts and maybe some changes to the ancillaries can I use the engine as standard? ie injection and ECU. I suspect the build will take me to the end of the summer anyway so even if this complicates things maybe it'll be a good choice. The value of 2nd hand Duratec Westys seem to surpass any other engine choice... Thanks in advance! C
mud
why don't you buy a brand new duratech engine ? around £1300 complete from a company called powertorque i think
adhawkins
The ST170 isn't a 'real' Duratec, it's a re-badged Zetec (if I'm not mistaken). Not sure why they did that though... Andy
BLOGGY S7
The ST170 engine is infact a Zetec but with a developed head. The easy way you can tell is that the block on the ST170, is cast iron. Where by the true Duratec engines are all Alloy. They also have a different starter motor that bolts in from the side.
