greeny Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 I've just fitted a Carbon exhaust can to my Duratec and got hold of a sound level meter. My question is....at what distance from the exhaust outlet is the noise level tested? From memory I think it's about 2m? I've had a quick flick through the Blue book but can't find naff all! I'm a bit worried about it being too loud for Harewood on Sunday. My standard Westfield silencer was tested at 103db @ 2/3 max revs. Any help appreciated! Quote
conibear Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 3/4 of maximum RPM. This is tested @ 500mm away from outlet of silencer and also @ 45 degrees, either directed to front or rear it does not matter. hope this helps Quote
Blatman Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 And unless you're unlucky (or racing at Goodwood) MSA sprints and hillclimbs are 108dbA for road going cars, IIRC... Quote
greeny Posted July 6, 2005 Author Posted July 6, 2005 I'm pretty sure that Harewood is 106 dbA now. Quote
a4gom Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 I pressume you didn't test it last night, might have upset the neighbours. Let us know how you go on. Don't know how hard it was for you to get one but for future ref I have a meter if you need one. Presume you got all your bits sorted now, seized shocker etc. Quote
greeny Posted July 7, 2005 Author Posted July 7, 2005 No, didn't have the balls to test it at midnight! Will do it this eve. Might do a drive-by as well for good measure! Cars all sorted now........he says! I like the avatar btw. Quote
greeny Posted July 7, 2005 Author Posted July 7, 2005 If anyone is interested, I've just dug this out from the Harewood specific regs: "All cars running in classes 1 to 5 inclusive must be silenced to a maximum noise level of 105Dba when measured at half a metre from the exhaust pipe at a 45 degree angle at two thirds maximum revs." Quote
greeny Posted July 7, 2005 Author Posted July 7, 2005 You may have to put a sock in it Simon Very good Geoff, I can always rely on you to be the comedian! I did a noise test tonight and it was about 101dbA at 45 degrees, 104 directly infront of the outlet pipe and 107 when I backed off! We'll have to see how it is on Sunday! Quote
iManagebob Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Noise test! Need a sickness test after those pictures swirling around :-) Quote
