steve_m Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 Finally got tired of the standard fit Ford radio/CD in my tin top and decided to buy a proper system for it. Can anybody recommend an amplifier for pure sound quality rather than some boy racer megga SPL thing ? I've got a Nakamichi head unit and a pair of Infinity Perfect speakers for the front. Don't know yet how to get the bass in there as I don't want a bass box in the boot but I do want low level bass to fill in where the fronts drop away. Has anybody else done something similar ? I know most of the class D amps are no good, like the Alpine V12's etc - have looked at Genesis which seem much better but they start at £500 for a suitable unit - bit much to spend without knowing that they will sound good. If Naim made car hi-fi I'd know what to choose but they don't Quote
peterg Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 you could ask Julian Thompson on Blatchat (if you have a signon) as he owns a car hifi etc etc shop in Macclesfield if you don't have a signon, let me know an email address for you and I'll put you in touch Quote
steve_m Posted July 2, 2005 Author Posted July 2, 2005 Thanks, that might be useful. I can't post on BC anymore, can you PM me an address ? Thanks Quote
Major Stare Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 There are so many routes to take and dependant on budget. Genesis amps are good, but whats your budget? If it were me i'd buy an amp to run the Infinity's (what are they - components?, sizes?). Look for RMS and not MAX Watts, match the RMS values! If you want the bass to go very low, get a 15" or 12" sub, if you prefer something that kicks get an 8" or 10"sub with suitable amp. You could also try an amplified sub unit like a Bazooka. Wiring an amp needs to be done properly, look at another £30-£40. Try HERE too for idea's. Quote

The best sounding system I ever listened to in a car had a 6 channel Genesis. 2 channels driving the tweeters, 2 driving the mid range and the final 2 bridged to drive a sub. It was to die for...
