gee_fin Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 SOLD Carbon-Fibre Westfield SEi R1 Chassis: SEi/strengthened Engine: R1 1000cc/ ~190bhp/semi-auto paddleshift Body: full carbon interior/exterior Suspension: Avo/widetrack/Titan/alloy Weight: 400kg Performance: 0-60mph 3.3s. History: Originally built in 2001, the car has evolved over the past four years into its current form. Built from the chassis up as an R1 engined car in 2002. The engine mounts created, chassis strengthened and then powdercoated the car was professionally rebuilt from the ground up. Every component was new or refurbished as new with the end result (and initial goal) being the lightest Westfield built to date. The lightness is backed up by the strength to be able to compete in the Barbados Rally Carnival, on both the tarmac and the rallysprint event. Since its completion the car has competed three times in the Barbados Rally Carnival, winning each sprint event it has entered. After each event, the car has been stripped back to a rolling chassis, all suspension and important bolts replaced with new, shocks replaced each year, all components checked and, where required, replaced or refurbished. The car is road registered (on a non Q-plate), fully road legal and sold with 12 months MOT. This is a perfect example of a well loved, no expense-spared car that has had all the money required poured into it at every possible opportunity. Literally everything that could have been bought has been bought. All those hours spent scouring the Demon Tweeks catalogue circling things you’d like to buy? It’s been done - they’ve been bought, they’re on the car. If you want a car that someone has spent all the money on, leaving you with nothing to do but put petrol in it, this is the one. Chassis: Westfield SEi (independent rear end) with 7” (Sierra type) diff setup. Powdercoated in 2002. Diff mounts/diff cage strengthened, diff triangulation, widened tunnel. Front end reinforced with triangulation by Force Racing (top suspension mounts, floorpan, radiator cross-brace, removable diff bracing). Fully panelled in 1mm pre-preg 2x2 twill carbon-fibre throughout – sides, bulkheads, back panel, etc. The floorpan is fully panelled/enclosed in bonded and riveted 3mm thick pre-preg carbon fibre (cost of over £1,000 alone). Roll cage is a bolt in T45 multipoint cage by Custom Cages. Engine mounts are triangulated, powder coated round tubing and pre-preg carbon fibre. Engine: Mistral R1 engine. Year 2000 very low mileage (I personally bought the engine brand new from PDM in 2002 with ZERO miles on it) Yamaha R1 engine. 1000cc. Engine has had a mild polish, head skim, slotted cams and three angle valve cut. Clutch has Kevlar frictions, Barnett steel drive plates and a Barnett spring conversion with uprated Holeshot springs and billet swing arm. Basically a bullet-proof clutch solution as proven by zero slip when we run the car with regulation induced lead ballast. Engine has a baffle plate and tulip to protect against oil surge (zero oil surge issues to date) and has been run only on Red Line oil with oil changes every event. The engine runs Keihin 41mm flatslide carburettors – the ultimate in carb technology, rejetted, setup by Powertec and an iTG air filter on a carbon backplate. Cooling is via an aluminium radiator. Cooling lines are aluminium and silicone, fuel lines are aluminium pipe and braided hose. Fuel tank is a baffled 25litres. Exhaust is a beautiful Promotive 4-2-1 design in stainless steel leading into a carbon-fibre Micron race ‘silencer’. Power is ~190bhp Transmission: Six speed sequential dog box (std Yamaha), Bailey Morris centre bearing prop into a Quaife ATB in a Sierra housing. The car is geared to do 122mph. A change of ratio would see more. Gear shift is actuated either mechanically via a column mounted gear lever, or electronically via microswitched carbon-fibre paddles behind the steering wheel. These fire a Kliktronic shifter and a Translogic flatshift, meaning no lift is needed on the throttle. The car has an electric reverse system courtesy of Plays-Kool on the left rear inboard CV joint. Suspension/Steering/Braking: Suspension is fully independent double wishbones all round. Wide-track aero wishbones on the front. It’s polybushed, purely to soak up some of the ripples on the tarmac. Front and rear fully adjustable anti roll bars. Adjustable Avo shocks all round. Steering is through a Titan alloy ultra quick rack (1.7 turns) with rose-jointed ends on billet aluminium quick toe adjusters. The rack has been moved to adjust for bump steer. The car runs alloy hubs, alloy rear uprights and cast front uprights (for strength). Brand new bearings have been used every year. Brakes are Wilwood 4 pots up front with standard Ford on the rear all clamping lightweight cross-drilled discs. Pagid RS14s all round, again, brand new. There is a Wilwood hydraulic handbrake on the rear. Braking system is of course completely braided throughout and has separate AP master cylinders front and rear with a cockpit adjustable brake balance. Cockpit: Cockpit is kitted out in full carbon, there is not one aluminium panel on the car. The seats are carbon/Kevlar high back seats. Both have six point 3” wide Luke harnesses with anodised adjusters and aircraft q/r buckles, brand new and FIA approved/dated as such. The pedals are anodised aluminium F3000 Reynard (floor mounted) with adjustable brake balance. The drivers LCD display is a full datalogging/trackmapping Aim MXL Pista digital dash display. Eight channels, shift lights, warning lights, all the indications you need and fully programmable/loggable. Supplementary gauges (fuel/oil pressure/a/f ratio) are carbon-fibre Autometer gauges. All switches on the carbon dash are toggles with a push button start (no key except for the battery cut-off). There is a quick-start Anderson battery jump connector under the dash and a secondary (if needed) Anderson battery connector in the boot (should you wish to run excessive lighting and/or a second battery). There is also a passenger maplight under the dash. Steering wheel is Momo, with a microswitch paddleshift system and steering mounted buttons for ancillaries on a carbon-fibre back panel. It all runs through a Lifeline quick release steering boss with a Lemo electrical connector in the centre of the boss so there are no visible wires. Electrics: The electrics on the car are fully shielded in a custom made lightweight loom by EEC. The engine loom is stripped to the minimum with the connectors idiot proofed (handy!. The car loom is all individual circuits running to two carbon-fibre mounted fuse boxes. I can happily, and honestly, say I have never had one electrical problem with either loom. It is a work of art, easy to follow and yet bulletproof. You will not see lumps of wires and ancillaries clumped up under the bonnet, the loom is stripped to the necessary circuits and sheathed/shielded throughout meaning a beautifully clean and tidy, reliable installation. The battery is a lightweight gel type battery mounted in the centre of the car. Bodywork: Bodywork is pre-preg carbon fibre, scuttle, windscreen stanchions, dash, headlamps, indicator pods, chassis protectors, cycle wings and two-teir contoured diffuser are all similarly carbon-fibre. The nosecone has been (professionally) painted Subaru blue (with an adhesive vinyl stripe) to signify the car’s recent entry into the Barbados Rally Carnival. Fuel filler cap is a lockable Goodridge aircraft type. The wheels are three-piece billet Rial racing rims, 13x7s with black centres and alloy wheel nuts wearing Yokohama super soft 205x60 A032s. Condition: Mechanically the car is in perfect condition, blisteringly quick and all the right bits. :Performance from a 400kg/190bhp car with an instant sequential shift needs to be experienced to be believed. The main bodytub has a crack on the left rear arch and has had the right rear arch replaced from a tap on a previous Carnival. An option (see below) if concourse condition is wished, is for a new shell (non-carbon) to be put on the car or the carbon tub to be resprayed. Internally the car is immaculate, being kept in dry surroundings and polished furiously for the show circuit. Options (all negotiable): T45 roll cage, can be removed and replaced with an RAC bar. (-£450) Shocks, Avos can be changed for Nitrons. (+£750) Bodytub, due to small right rear crack, can be changed for new main tub or have existing carbon one fixed and sprayed. (+£500) Lights, car has two HID gas discharge lights on a carbon mounting frame (nosecone) and two ultrabright PIAA spots that can be sold with the car if wished. (+£400) ProShift - Autoblip downshift, an auto throttle blip downshift system, meaning you can shift clutchless down the box as well as up. (+£500) Summary: I’m selling the car having competed in it three times in Barbados and now have a new project in hand that needs to be finished. I’ve spent a vast amount of money developing it and having fun with this car and will miss it dearly but it’s time to try something new to keep the brain fresh and active. While some people are put-off by raced cars, the beauty of them is that you are safe in the knowledge that they are thoroughly checked after every event and stripped/rebuilt every year (as opposed to the majority of road cars where things are changed when they fall off! ) . With regards to complexity, the setup and running is no different to that of a trackday car or fast road-going car and any help required will be gladly given. I dearly hope I can sell it in one piece as it would gutting to have to strip it and sell it in parts having spent the time developing the machine into it’s current state. This car has had over £40,000 put into it through the years and has the performance, handling and appeal to excite and enthuse at any track, meeting or on any drive. Priced to sell at £13,500. Test passenger rides available, any questions/photos/info please ask. Recent (and old) videos of the car available at – www.fluke-motorsport.co.uk/videos Initial build photos available at www.fluke-motorsport.co.uk/profiles/cars_wr1c.html Contact: Graeme on 07747 60 60 66 or graeme@fluke-motorsport.co.uk Located in Stamford/Peterborough area but tends to travel a lot as it's still being used daily P.S. Any posts along the lines of “first dibs on the seats/wheels/etc” will be translated to ‘last dibs”, I don’t want to strip the car, understandably preferring to sell it in one piece and won’t be considering that until after summer so don't start

gee_fin Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 lol Certainly not claiming that! However, I will claim that it has been loved, properly maintained, cared for, had more money put into it buying expensive shiny bits and top specification components than should be legal and has been subject to so much of my time, love and attention that it has cost me three girlfriends! Which, handily enough, it was also quiet adept at acquiring... Graeme.
