adhawkins Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Hi all, Anyone got an Escort quick rack they can sell to me rapidly? There's play in mine, and on track today at Castle Combe it was a bit disconcerting under braking, so I'd rather get it replaced before Curborough (two weeks time). Drop me a PM or an e-mail. Thanks Andy
Mark Stanton Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 They're readily available - is yours a quick rack or standard ?? If standard an exchange unit at most local motor-factors will have you sorted within a couple of days replace the mount rubbers (if not solidly mounted) as well while you're down there and take a look at track rod ends - they're just a few quid disposable items or may end up in "Emergency Spares Box"
adhawkins Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 Apparently they're not that available, Dickie B is currently waiting for one, due in at the end of the month. Mine is a quick rack, yes. Andy
adhawkins Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 Is this what I'm after? This price seem sensible? Andy
DickieB Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Excellent - and 2 bolt type rather than 1 large nut. Go for it.
adhawkins Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 Ok, cool. I'll phone them Monday. Where do I get the mounts and the track rod ends then? CAT? If some duffer rings up and says 'I want rack mounts and track rod ends' will they know what I'm talking about? Andy
DickieB Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Use the mounts you have now - they will be fine. As for track rod ends, go to your local motor factors and ask for Quinton part no QR1384S (you'll need 2)
leighc Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Andy if you get one of those quick racks from peter lloyd can you let me know what you think? I might get one too
Mark Stanton Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 If you have solid ali mounts then re-use its not a problem If you have the U shaped standard Ford things they have a rubber insert which is the bit worth replacing Simply take a look - if they're shiny you have ali mounts
DickieB Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Ah, I was cheating, I know Andy has solid ali mounts - hence re-useable!
DickieB Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Yes Good point, he didn't have extensions. Mmmm, will email Andy...
Mark Stanton Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 In which case he might need to ring Cat or remove the longer arms from his current rack and swap em over
DickieB Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Which is exactly what I just emailed him with and PM'd him with. I leave for Moscow tomorrow at 4:50am so will someone please help Andy out! Whatever the solution, I'll happily fit it on my return (yes, my wife now weekly commutes, so I have b*gger all to do every evening! )
Mark Stanton Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 so will someone please help Andy out! Will wind him up first though - its more fun that way
