Tiger SPY
Hi, I have 2 sierra diffs of different ratio's one is a LSD one isn't, can the crown wheel and pinion be taken from my non lsd and fitted to my lsd unit to increase the ratio? tonym
Yes you can do it yourself I have. Use the case of the diff with the ratio you need so as to avoid setting up the pinion gear (the difficult bit) bolt the crown wheel off this diff to the LSD unit. You will find you have to grind the casing a little to allow the crown wheel and pinion to be fitted as the castings are slightly different. the drive flanges are different so you must use the ones off the LSD. I set up the crown wheel by "feel" using the two castellated nuts behind the drive flanges to.get just a perceptable amount of backlash. You need a key to undo the drive flanges which I made from a large washer welded to a bar.Do not be tempted to try to undo them with a hammer and punch as you will only break them. Mine has been done for a year with no problems or whines from the unit. Hope this helps. Any probs. Email me.
