On a bit of a tangent - let's play "common sense cops"

Missing 13 year old boys found in lift

Picture the scene: Two 13 year olds do not meet their parents as agreed, having been to see a film.  Police are called and a localised search is instigated.  The mobile phone signal from one of the boys is traced to the shopping centre, but you cannot check inside the shops, because they are shut.  Do you:

a) Get details of as many shop keyholders as you can (hell there's probably a police database of them, given that they are probably all alarmed), contact them and ask them to come and search their shops for the missing boys, and break into any shops you are unable to do this for.

or

b) Scramble the police helicopter, search a massively wide area, stopping trains and generally searching everywhere except where the phone signal is coming from, because it's locked and you can't get in.

B.....

no

A....

ooo is this a trick question?

I could phone a friend (if I had one)

Can I go 50:50 please....

I am sorry, but children are not born evil, disrespectful, obnoxious, etc etc these are things that they learn from their environment.  I have two sons (5 and 3) and would be furious if they even swore let alone tried to seriously harm another child.  But I know of friends of my sons who are allowed to hit, kick, bite and swear at their parents and siblings and get away with it time after time.

I was worried to death about becoming a parent and having responsibility for helping to nuture two people.  As has been said you need to take tests and get licences for many things but any old t*55er can have kids.

I don't think this was a game gone wrong. It seems to me yet another example of children having no understanding of right and wrong and where the boundaries lie. I blame the parents and a political system that actively takes responsibility away from them encouraging them to be bad parents.

[old fart mode on]

You only have to visit any supermarket to see that the children of today have parents who have no idea how to control their offspring and offer no sensible guidance on what is and is not acceptable behaviour.

I don't think we should 'bring back the birch'  but we should set a decent set of 'standards' for parents and children to adhere to and actively encourage both to adhere to them. Stopping parents from 'smacking' their children is the most stupid bit of 'social engineering' ever - sometimes it is the best way to get the message across when the 'round table' approach has failed.

Very very very well said!!!! I totaly agree, I also agree with what s8ight and fat albert have said but as far as the James Bulcher situation is concerned Im sorry neil I have to disagree, there was three victims that day but they were james himself andf his parents not the other two boys that comited this atrocity, I do agree that the law dosnt seem able to handle these sorts of crimes as they seem to be a fairly modern issue, but anyone of what ever age inherently knows that taking a life is wrong and I feel they should be punished acordingly, I belive in an eye for an eye.

Rant Mode On!!

Went to Thorpe Park on monday with my Girlfriend My Brother(39) his wife Niece and Nephew (9)

Me, Girlfriend, Brother and nephew are in the queue for the nemisis ride, All the queues have signs saying "Thorpe Park Does Not Allow Smoking In The Queues ThankYou". 5 lads in front 3 aged about 18-20 , 2 aged about 10. My Brother says to one of the 18yr old excuse me it says no smoking he replies " Do I look Like I am Bothered " I Hear him and he just stares at me as if to say come on then mate lets go, I am 33 6ft 2 and 18 stone and I want to rip his head off there is no way I would have dared to speak to somebody like that at his age I would have expected a smack in the face but what can you do!! If I had whacked him I would have been arrested. They then continued to smoke, two of them were punching and kicking each other, pushing each other and other people in the queues then one of the 10 year olds starts play fighting with them then spits at one of them just missing a women queing with here bloke he looked livid and I was hoping he steamed in as I would have followed him. One of the young kids was to short and when he reached the ride they said he could not ride he just told the attendent to F off and got on the ride and they let it go I was hoping the little dangler fell out of the seat half wat round .I realy dont now what is wrong with the world I have no kids and it is teriffying seeing what some of them turn out like.

Don't now if this is relevent but the kids probably lived with the brad pitt characture out of snatch if you know what I am Saying  ;)  ;)

Stuff like that iiritates the hell out of me  :(

Compare and contrast with the other evening - SWMBO and I took Erin to the pool at the apartment complex and there were a bunch of young people there - I'd say between 18 and 20 years old.  Now, they looked scruffy and one had a shaved head and pierced eye-brow, but as we walked in one of them very politely and cheerfully said "Hi - nice evening :)".   I have to say I was a bit taken aback, but pleasantly so.

Anyway, I was in the pool with Erin and SWMBO was getting a bit agitated.  I asked her why and she said the language was a bit innapropriate for a 5 year old to hear.  Fortunately Erin was making so much noise she didn't hear any of it, but I suggested that SWMBO just politely ask them to tone it down a bit if it was concerning her.

So, she did - and was greeted with..........profuse apologies, smiles and promises to keep it down a bit.  If one of them slipped up there would be a lot of leg-pulling from their mates and they'd laugh about it.  Not one of them was put out or offended by SWMBO's request and as we left they were polite as you like.

Now granted they were Merkins, but young people aren't all scrotes and occasionally you come across some who genuinely give you cause to smile :)

I agree with a lot of the comments made and wish that there was a quick easy solution, but I am afraid that the country has been going this way for a lot of years and it will take something very significant to change it.  :D  :D  :D

But a couple of thing that I believe would help is:-

1) you can't get anthing out of the sate unless you have first put in (works well in Spain) no more school kid mum's with new coucil flats, they live at home!

2) No right's without responsibility, if you are acting irresponibly then you forfit your rights ie Burglars can be shot  :D  :D  :D

Yes the world really is getting worse, however I know lots of young people and their parents and genrally you can see where the parent, or parents make the effort, the kids seem to be well adjusted.

The types that barry mentioned at Thorpe Park are in the majority now, uneducated losers who are given a helping hand all the way through life by do gooders. Teachers now have a tough job where they cannot punish kids, if they are expelled labour sends them back so they never learn.

In the past those who worked were better housed, better paid, and more respected than those who didn't, now those who will not work are no worse off sometimes they are better off.

The kindess thing with some kids is to take them off the parents and give them to people who know how to behave and set examples and nurture kids.

I see young men and women who start to work for me who do not respect anyone or anything, and when they are torn a new A******e by me they say it is not fair, they will apeal to the law, get me beaten up, etc etc.

When we see ******s becoming rich becasue they appear on big brother, or have three in a bed sex sessions with John Leslie,  when we see stars being applauded because they got off drugs, instead of derided because they got into them in the first place, when we see soap operas showing murderers getting away with, when we see convicted criminals, leslie Grantham (murderer) Lord Brockett (fraudster) Frankie Frazer (pick a crime) become celebrities, is there any wonder why we are in this position.

Until we start to punish with the full weight of the law and public opinion then, we will never get things sorted out.

It is funny how the do gooders go on about human rights in Singapore and other low crime countries, yet they have a lot less crime than we do. Makes you wonder who is gettingit right.
