a4gom Posted May 23, 2005 Author Posted May 23, 2005 Thanks, its a little too far away though, about 12 miles from kelso, 30 miles from Duns. Main Purpose of visit, watching Jim Clarke Rally, secondary purpose beer Last year we stayed at caravan site in Kelso but they are not accepting tents anymore. Previous years we stayed in the marshal's campsite at duns, last year they moved the campsite to Kelso racecourse and made it marshals only, we use this as a boys weekend away and there is far too much alcohol around for us to safely marshal the event so we are looking for somewhere else to stay. We really could do with been near to either of these locations so we can walk / taxi and leave the cars alone at night. Quote
studbuckle Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Why don't you give the Jim Clarke Room in Duns a call and see if they know where the nearest is... it's alway run by a local Quote
joff69 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 The Eden Valley motor club will be marshalliong somewhere on the event, you could contact them to see where they will be staying. If you know where you will be spectating, why not just get to the spectator carpark and sleep in the car? We've just marshalled at the Pirelli and we slept in our tent in the forest! Lots of spectators slep in their cars in the spectator carparks. Quote
a4gom Posted May 24, 2005 Author Posted May 24, 2005 this any good? Thanks mate but sadly they are not taking tents anymore (nothing to do with us last year) Quote

We will be watching 3 or 4 stages each day and not via the spectator car parks (which they like to charge for now). If we can't find a campsite it may have to be bed n breakfast but I would like to keep the cost down I'm guessing but I think the motor club will be staying at the marshalls campsite. Quote
joff69 Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 I'm guessing but I think the motor club will be staying at the marshalls campsite. You could always register to marshall and get entry to the marshals campsite, and then not actually marshall. Having said that, when I marshall, it is really annoying when that happens! By the way, If you have got this weeks Motorsport News and read the letters page, there is a letter about myself and my brothers who were marshalling Junction 11 on the Bower stage on Pirelli last weekend. Not that I'm sat here typing this with a big grin on my face Hope you get something sorted out. Quote
a4gom Posted May 27, 2005 Author Posted May 27, 2005 I know how annoying that is as well so I can't do that! I've run many rally's before, been safety officer, chief marshall etc and I 100% believe in the put in what you take out and trust me this isn't a weekend for me to be marshalling. This is watch while you can still see weekend! Quote
joff69 Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Andy Just seen this on the Britishrally website forum. Maybe of interest to you. http://www.britishrally.com/forum2/forum_posts.asp?TID=16712&PN=1 Regards Quote
a4gom Posted June 3, 2005 Author Posted June 3, 2005 Thanks Joff, I'll pass it on to the new tour organiser. I have found a couple of campsites but they are not anywhere near Kelso or Duns. So B & B could be on the cards. From memory charterall is where the centralised serviceing is. So it would be good for the rallying just not so good for the beer. Quote
