Peter Cox Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Do any other aero's suffer significant airflow/helmet vibration at over 100? This doesn't occur with hat off. Anyone found a lelmet design that minimises/ eradicates this vibration? Quote
scott beeland Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Are you sure it's the right size for you for starters. If it's a bit loose it will tend to move around a bit in an aero'd car. Other than that it isnt a design with fins/ aero bits on it is it? They're ok if you keep your head facing directly forwards but any cross force of air will cause buffeting /vibration of the helmet/head. Edited to say mine has been at 135plus many a time and doesn't have any issues (and I don't mind admitting to regular 135 blasts.....the bad publicity in light of Mr Lucky b******d Policeman would not do any government any good) Quote
Bronco Jr Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I get bad vibes with my "lid" on, but only when the visor is open just a little, when I lock it shut the problem goes away. Oddly this doesnt happen on the bike when I can keep it a little open at speeds over 150 without any problem, must be something to do with the airflow round the westy cockpit! Hope this helps Quote
Richgm Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Peter your being too modest. You need a bigger head to keep the helmet still Now where did I put my coat....... Quote
Peter Cox Posted May 19, 2005 Author Posted May 19, 2005 LOL Unfortunately, my head is already too big* so the hat fits nice and tight (as proven by the balaclava scars that take hours to dissipate). I too get visor vibration when it's slightly open, but that's a different matter (this is occurring wlen visor is locked down). The helmet is a Shark XRF, simple, bulbous & round...no fins. Maybe it's the specific helmet design? Scott, what make and model is your lid? *...that's cos I'm great, and modest too Quote
Richgm Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Could also be to do with your height. Same helmet on a person taller or shorter than you will get a slightly different airflow so may not get the same problem as you do. Try a different helmet and see if you get the same problem. If you do then maybe moving the areo slightly would cure the problem. Rich Quote
neilwillis Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I get buffeting at speeds over 90, but it only happens in windy conditions, or in the slipstream of other vehicles. Quote
scott beeland Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 ? Scott, what make and model is your lid? HJC CL12. Best fitting lid I've had to date Quote

Lordbenny Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 My helmet started vibrating on a blat at the weekend, easily solved.....just did my flies up. Quote
Nick M Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 My Simpson Desperado has a chin spoiler which cuts down on buffeting and "lid lift" dramatically Quote
SteveF Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Have you got a light sabre to go with that helmet Nick? Quote
Nick M Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I might have.... I've almost got the heavy breathing bit sussed - helped enormously by the use of a small plastic cup.... Quote
Kaz Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 Have you got a light sabre to go with that helmet Nick? Use thee force lad!!!! Quote
SteveF Posted May 19, 2005 Posted May 19, 2005 I get a slight vibration when the heavy blaster cannon fires, but apart from that my helmets fine up to 1200 kph in the atmosphere Quote
