Avoid this at all costs.......... :bangshead:  :bangshead:

Have one as a loaner while they repair Touareg.......its flippin awful....

Once you get past the external styling.....not easy.....its dark and cramped inside.....and then, you try and drive it....

I cannot believe how bad the driving position is.....I've read plenty of comments in mags before now about cars having pedals "offset", but the clutch pedal on this lines up with the centre of the steering wheel goodness me!!!!!

Oh yes, and it has a start/stop button...... :bangshead:  You have to get in, push the fob into a slot, press down the clutch (oops, thats the footrest, aaah there's the clutch), then press the start button.....can someone tell me why on earth this is better than a simple key in the ignition???

Horrible, horrible, horrible..............

I have to disagree

I was loaned a 116i when our Mini went in for a service.

I didn't find it too bad at all - really liked the handling, but was very underpowered.

I'd still have one over the VW Golf IV 130tdi I've got now, as long as it was a 120d.

Will.

but isn't it just a RWD Mini?

so does that not make it a good platform to build the 130i on?

6-cyl 3ltr... in a RWD mini - now your talking :)

Handling is quite sharp, true....but too right, its underpowered....

I have to say I took a 120D for a test drive a few months back - it drove like a dream.  And no, it is not just a rear wheel drive Mini - I have a Mini and the 2 are chalk and cheese.  The 120D is much more like a proper BMW, whereas the Mini is a posh front wheel drive hatchback.  I've not driven a Golf (yet), but the looks of the BMW would put me off (and even more so my wife).  Now where did I put that Audi A3 brochure...

Because it's sporty apparently...

Pedals - I've owned both a 318i E46 and 523i E39 so no, I don't think the pedals are that bad

but I'm used to them :)

Because the ignition barrel smashes your leg to bits if you have a serious accident , and will also lower the saftey rating .

Or you could have it by the handbrake like a Saab  :)

Mmmm this did occur to me....but all they really needed to do was have a dash mounted ignition, instead of all the a**ing about with a start/stop button as well IMHO!

Interesting comment re other Beemers - I usually drive a 523i, (last model, whichever E number that is!;) and have no problems.....

We had a 120d go past us on the way home from the btcc at thruxton .I held him up at 120mph ( i was in my Griff )and decided he was in much more of a rush than me and let him get on with it. The pedals on my E36 M3 evo were offset aswell and you get use to them as long as you're not swapping driving cars too often.
