Matt Seabrook Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Just got a price for four wide track wishbones from Westfield £550 without bushes. I was just looking for future but will be looking in another direction. Quote
ChrisG Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Or GTS Tuning - under £200 for the set I believe. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted May 13, 2005 Author Posted May 13, 2005 Yep I have already had a set from Cat and they are very good just getting some ideas for long distance plans Quote
8336 Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Hi Matt Just been reading Totalkitcar website. Article on GTS Lotus 11/15 they also do wide track for Westie see: - http://www.gtstuning.co.uk/ John G Quote
Blatman Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Jesus H Jones. 550 quid? For 10 quids worth of tube and a couple of hours for a (Midlands pay scale) welder at what, a tenner, maybe 15 quid an hour? So they are likely to sell none at that price to anyone here (all but 4000 of us these days...), but it has been adequately demonstrated that demand is high at 200 nicker judging by the number of folk who have bought GTS and CAT wide track sets, to say nothing of ProComp who I believe also sell wide track wishbones. So if Westfield dropped their price to 200 quid a set, would we buy from them instead of a 3rd party company? I almost certainly would, and I can't believe that Westfield wouldn't make a handsome profit on selling at 200 quid a set. Or am I missing something? Answers on the back of a tenner... Quote
Blatman Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 But they have customers for their wide track... Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 You are looking best part of £70 - £80 each for standard wishbones and arn't the new ones from westfield the aerofoil style! Not wanting to get into an arguement but surely parts made by the manufacture with a proven design and manufacturing process which include full product liability insurance have to be the best way to go on such a vital part such as a wishbone! I know which I would buy every time! Barry Quote

Matt Seabrook Posted May 14, 2005 Author Posted May 14, 2005 You must have more money than me then Barry Quote
Flat Eric Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Phoned factory, they offered me widetrack wishbones at £117 each (£468 + vat = £550) At Stoneleigh Richard was offering me Westfield 2000s wide track with bushes WITH their new fancy new Anti Roll bar (from 2000s) for £500 as a kit. Which he said would retro fit my older car. Looks nice... I have not gone down this route because, anti rollbar arrangement is twisted 180 degrees from normal and this would have fouled against my water pump (V8 was too far forward). Quote

I know which I would buy every time! Barry Not arguing, but discussing... The GTS 'bones are "aero" section and they come with a speed adjuster for making camber changes in a hurry, should that be important to you. And I'm sure GTS are responsible enough to have taken care of product liability. As for proven design and manufacturing, well yes up to a point, but Westfield hardly did the proving. Wishbones and MiG welding have been around for a while. The materials required to make them are not trade secrets, and I can buy enough metal tube to make 4 wishbones for under 20 quid and that's retail. Westfield chose the cheapest processes that suited them (otherwise they'd be TiG'ed...) and applied them, they didn't invent them. And I have no problem with Westfield building components down to a budget. It's good business to keep overheads low. However I object to paying for a so called "bespoke" part when it really isn't much of a one. So my question is, just where does the high price come from? No argument on the critical part statement, but the rest is subjective reasoning at best... Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 Yep agree with all Blatters has posted when you can get Cat wishbones for 1/2 the price it seems a little steep to me. I know the Cat one are good I have them on my road car. I was just trying to get a comparison. Barry out of interest do get all your parts off the car manufacture that made the car? Or would you get good quality parts from a third part lets say brake pads and the like? Quote
