I.S.M Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Before anyone says it, i know i ve only got myself to blame. Have come back to uni after an amazing easter and sat down to continue with my individual research project (engineering equivalent of a dissistation) and thought i d mail my tute since i havent seen him for a few weeks regarding my project write up. Just emailed me back - massive shake up of nottinghams new campus in china hes jetting out there this friday to sort it and not coming back until 6th may - 3 days AFTER hand in deadline. Now i am at 4000 words out of a possible 8000, and its rough first draft. hes offered to look at it if i get it to him "asap" and then wants to meet last thing friday before he leaves, after which i am on my own last chance saloon. 2 problems: 1) its after 4, and i ve had way too much coffee now to concentrate, plus the sun shine shielas are out on campus. 2) I am racing at brands this weekend and intended to set off friday morning? ...being on here typing this is eating into my remaining hours too AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Well get off here and get on with your work Quote

The true test of maturity and responsibility is knowing that you really should blow off Brands in order to concentrate on your dissertation despite your overwhelming desire to want to race. I think you *know* the right thing to do, you just have to decide to do it. I have to say, it's a choice I'd have just as much trouble with if I were in your shoes. Good luck, I hope you can manage to do it all Oh, and did your tutor not e-mail all the students he is responsible for to advise them of what was happening? If not, then surely there must be something that can be done by the college to help with this? Quote
JonnyBoy Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 they'll give you another tutor.. if they dont.. then demand a refund of your tuition fees... what the devil else are they for!! Quote
DickieB Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I'd go to Brands! I'd also demand another tutor asap, so the 2 tutors can discuss it before the 1st leaves. If necessary see the head of department. I had to during my degree, to complain about a lecturer. What is the topic - someone must know something about it on here (or at my college) And anyway, your original tutor should be contactable by email in China..... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Give your Uni a rollicking and express your concern that your tutor is being despatched to China when your project is scheduled for presentation and cancel Brands - the submission of your project and achievement of the required result could affect the rest of your life whereas ............ there will be another race or sod it got to brands and enjoy yourself who needs a degree Quote
pistonbroke Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 If you fail the degree you will live to regret it If you miss brands you will always regret it Such a simple choice Quote
james grayley Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 managed to stay up for 64 hours without sleep at uni to finish final project. It's difficult but once you pass 36 you are through the worst in my experience. caffeine helps but does very strange things to your brain in large ammounts. Make a pint of strong coffee in a pint glass. stick it in freezer to cool and then down in one. used to work a treat. sugar and B&H help, although smoking is bad for you have to say though by this stage all i had left to do was cad drawing which requires a different type of mental effort to writing. Uni was pi$$ funny the day we finished. People loosing control of all bodily functions due to lack of sleep seriously, best of luck. Quote
Liam Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Go to the pub and forget it ! That's what my lad did - still got his Damian Quote
michaelcoombs Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I've just finished a stint of 6 days with a total of eight hours of sleep for an MA assessment (and I’m only a first year).... 10 gallons of coffee, 12 cans of red bull, far too much alcohol and junk food later I got the result I wanted. Putting your life on hold for a week or so will be worth it (I feel great at the moment for doing it)... its up to you of course... but use the 'rocking chair test' Good luck! Quote
