KerryS Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 The car went to Paul at Play's Kool yesterday for a pre-SVA check and to set the suspension up. He found that the emmisions were out, but have no figures yet (so trip to WF needed as I thought may happen), the fog lamp switch illuminates when in sidelight mode, though the actual light correctly comes on with the headlights. Paul has fixed this. Oddly though, he says there is no beam pattern to one of the headlights. He's bringing car back on Monday. Kerry S Quote
Eddy5 Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 You're about at the same point as me and my dad with the build then. I'm off to check the lambda sensor again this weekend as well as fit a new reverse light switch (Not easy with the bulkhead on etc). Then some final checks before we head off to Westy to get it checked over on the 26th. My Dad's real nervous about the SVA. That's why I persuaded him to take it to Westfield. They should also do the suspension setup too, as we don't have the means to do it really. Quote
geofff Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Mine's being checked on the 27th at WF - 1800 Zetec SEW class A chassis. When & where SVA? Ta Geoff Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 I'm off up to Play's Kool a week on Monday for the suspension set up and a quick pre SVA check. Sounds like there's a lot of SVAs coming up in the next month, good luck one and all. Quote
Flappa Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 Getting close then Kerry I've got my re-test booked for Friday I saw your comment about one of your head lights. I noticed a similar problem on one of mine. When I ckecked and compared the 2, the one doesn't have a metal clip inside the rubber boot to hold the bulb tight in against the back of the reflector. I haven't spoken to WF yet, but as a temp fix I lashed a couple of cable ties accross the back to hold it in. This corrects the position of the bulb to the reflector to produce the right beam. Worth having a look to see if yours is the same. HTH Quote
jeff oakley Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 The SVA test is nothing to fear if you prepare correctly. It is an insurance ploicy at least, do you really want a car that can do insane speeds where you may have missed something? I have just put my second car throught the SVA and passed first time. Key things are anything you can feel an edge on will fail, so radius them now, make all you cable runs tidy, under dash area if you panel it in they will love it. Headlamps they will allow you to adjust on the test. As for the engine spend some money and have it tuned before you go, you will start and stop it 20 or 30 times during the test and if it doesn't run smooth it will affect the emissions and the noise test. Suspension can be set up with a spirit level good enough for SVA but somewhere like Procomp, Northampton motorsport etc will set it up better afterwards. If it passes first time great, if not just fix the small bits they mention, don't argue and everything will be fine. Jeff Quote
karlgurney Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 I second panelling under the dash that was the first place the tester looked and he was impressed, I took my car for a mot and tune up before sva, i didn't need to just thought it would be good to do so, they noticed that one of the lights had no beam pattern a bulb change fixed it?? baffled me. Good luck Karl Quote
swiftr Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 Funnily enough the same things that Paul found on my pre-SVA test. Emissions were 'fixed' by a trip to Westfield (still not perfect at the SVA test). When you ring to book in at WF for the emissions, mention the light as well, they just gave me a new one which worked fine at the test. I paid the extra to have Paul trailer the car to the test and 'support' me through it. Well worth it as far as I'm concerned as Paul has all the bits with him to fix minor problems on the spot and knew what the examiner was on about during the emissions test (Lamdba and CO emissions). Take it to Nottingham, and hopefully you'll get Martin Bailey who's spot on!! Quote
KerryS Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 Dear everyone Thanks for advice. I forgot to mention that it is booked in at Nottingham (based on various recommendations) for SVA on May 9th. JAK is hoping to ride "shotgun" on the day to get some experience of the test prior to his being submitted. When I get the complete story from Paul I shall indeed trailer the car to WF where the emmisions and headlight can be sorted. Unfortunately, owing to having two caravans on my drive for a week (! it'll have to wait until just after the Stoneleigh show. Should get the car back this afternoon and a short illegal drive from the local pub car park after unloading off Paul's trailer to my house. Kerry S Quote
