daz_g Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I'm fitting the water temp sensor (vdo) into a zetec thermostat housing it has no electrical connection on the back just a flat disc. So i was wondering how do i connect it to my loom? - could i be missing another part, i have no instructions as i bought second hand Quote
Mark B Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 daz, The disc "is" the connector, you need a crimp type terminal that pushes onto it at 90 degrees, you can make do with a spade terminal or similar. If your thermostat housing is the black plastic type, remember to fit an earth to the body of the sensor- most people use a hose clip to hold the wire around it. HTH, Mark. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 A mate who was a parts manager for years in the car industry still laughs when he see's this type of spade terminal. The first time any of the mechanics saw them, no one could work out what they were Still, apparently saved a fortune in broken wires over the old traditional spade terminals. Quote

kevip6 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Hello, I'm just getting to this part of the build and i'm a little confused I have the main Westfield loom, and i have the white VDO dials. These came with a water temp sensor and a oil pressure sensor. The engine is a black top focus zetec. Firstly i can't seem to find anywhere on the thermostat housing for the temp sensor to fit and secondly i have no idea where the oil pressure sensor goes?! My next problem is i am fitting the Webcon Alpha throttle bodies and ECU kit (no jokes about this being my problem) and it also came with a water temp sensor and loom connection. Would i need to run the Webcon sensor for the ECU connection? I don't believe the webcon system has inputs for oil temp and pressure? So in summary: 1) where are the water temp / oil pressure sensor locations? 2) should i use the wecon temp sensor? Thanks Kev Quote
jak Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 water temp sensor goes here Oil pressure sender goes to the left of the standard Ford one. Take out the blanking plug and screw in the sender unit. Sorry don't have a picture of it, but someone will if you need it I'm sure. Don't know about webcon sensor, I have MBE ECU and it uses the stanard Ford sensor intop of the thermostat housing(grey coloured connector). John Quote
kevip6 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Thanks for the reply John. With the thermostat, i can't seem to attach anything where you're sender is positioned? It seems to be just plastic there? i have circled the 2 positions i thought it could maybe go but they appear to be closed plastic? and with the oil pressure, is it the red arrow on the left? Thanks for your help Kev Quote
pete g Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 kev use vdo sender for gauge and weber one for ecu. you may have to fit a pipe adaptor in line if you not got any where to fit. can get them from burtons/tweeksor even ebay oil pressure sender can be fitted any where you can find a oil galley plug on block. Quote
kevip6 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Thanks Pete oil pressure sender can be fitted any where you can find a oil galley plug on block. Would the arrow on the left point to such an oil galley plug? Quote
pete g Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 one closer to filter looks like one ,not sure about other one ,that could be a coolent plug .not sure . Quote
Big R Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Yes - the left hand arrow indicates the position that is normally used for the oil pressure sender. Quote
kevip6 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Excellent, thanks So it's just a case of removing that plug and screwing the pressure sensor in? Quote
jak Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 So it's just a case of removing that plug and screwing the pressure sensor in? Yep, that simple. John Quote
kevip6 Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Fantastic, i will give that a whirl tomorrow then. That just leaves me with the water temp sender problem. Firstly where did the original temp sender go? Surely one of the new senors should fit into that? Secondly, if i did have to go for the adapter which hose would i connect it to? Thanks Kev Quote
