chazpowerslide Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I sent my 45's off to Webcon on Friday last week to have the extra progression holes drilled (5 holes for the Zetec) Quoted £100 + VAT (£12.50 per hole ) They promised a 7 day turnaround which is what they provided and they even cleaned the carbs up a for me as well. Fit and test in the morning. Chaz. Quote
itguy Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Hmmm - will be interested to know if that alone will solve your problems Quote
markcoopers Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Drilling holes is not going to fix Chaz's problems, plugging them more like.....Phooarr Quote
chazpowerslide Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 The car was not that bad before the mods, it was just slightly hesitant off idle and at very light throttle openings. TBH I looked at EFI but I can't really justify the cost over the use the car will get (besides I'm building a V8 narrow body Westy ATM so that's where the cash is going) We'll see if the mods are all they are cracked up to be later in the weekend. Chaz. Quote
James Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Should have gone TB's if youve driven a car with them fitted you wouldent look back! Quote
chazpowerslide Posted April 10, 2005 Author Posted April 10, 2005 Well, after an extensive "test" blat I can report that the mods to the carbs have fully cured the iffy pickup from idle on very light throttle openings. The pick up in general is much crisper and the car feels livelier at low revs (not that I used low revs too much this morning ) I had to re-balance the carbs and trim 3/4 of a turn off the idle mixture screws (now set at 2 turns out) I'd recommend this mod if you have a 1.8 or 2.0 Zetec and your 45DCOE carbs have less than 5 progression holes. I'm a happy chappy Chaz. Quote
ROC Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Nice one Chaz, Looks like mine will be going to them as well, I thought that they had stopped doing the drillings. Mine has always been a bit dodgy low down in the revs, glad to hear it has improved yours. Cheers, Rich. Quote
chazpowerslide Posted April 11, 2005 Author Posted April 11, 2005 The only problem I have had was when I initially re-fitted the carbs and charged up the fuel system, both of the needle valves had stuck open and I had 1/4 gallon of Shell's finest p*** out all over the floor! I know this can happen but I neglected to check the needles were free before I turned the ignition on Chaz. Quote
pete g Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 good to hear they got there act together[webcon] Quote
perksy Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I'd recommend this mod if you have a 1.8 or 2.0 Zetec and your 45DCOE carbs have less than 5 progression holes. Seconded Standard Number of Progression Holes is Ok if you have 8 Valves Quote
JonnyBoy Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 probably worth doing before visiting the chaps at Northampton Motorsport then! Quote
chazpowerslide Posted April 11, 2005 Author Posted April 11, 2005 It looks as if the mixture has been affected at idle (richer) but appart from that all seems well. I think it's money well spent at this stage, the car is a lot crisper to drive around town/in traffic and does not pop and bang at all now at part throttle. I think if you were going to do the mod it would be best before a RR session. Chaz. Quote
Rob Marshall Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Yes I would have the mod done before going to Northampton Motorsport, it made a great improvement to my 2L Zetec. I could not find anyone other than Webcom brave enough to do the mod, most rolling roads did not even understand the problem. I will shortly have a pair of modifed 45s for sale as I have gone to throttle bodies. Quote
