hilux
Porsche owners use these finned alloy jackets to increase the surface area of the filter with measureable temp reductions claimed of up to 10%. I`d have thought that they would be very effective on a Westy where the airflow (relatively speaking) was better in the engine compartment where a remote filter wasnt used or even better where a remote filter was in the front nosecone/airflow. JonnyBoy
i tried mounting my old heat sink to my oil cooler with a bit of thermal compound for maximum heat transfer..... Didnt work out too well :stupid:

steve_m
Do the magnet things work well or is that bull*hit ?
YouMustBeJoking
Do the magnet things work well or is that bull*hit ? In what context?
steve_m
I've seen what looks like an oil filter cooller with a magnetic ring around it, the idea being that small metal particles will be attracted to the magnet and kept out of the oil by sticking to the inside of the oil filter. Apparantly some of the metal particles are too small to be caught by the filter element. Sounds reasonable but I'm not convinced that it's not just picking up bits of metal that would otherwise be caught in the filter as usual. gee_fin
Most sump plugs are magnetised...
MARSDALEBEAR
Are they? Mini ones were but they shared the oil with the gearbox. Not so sure about other engines but I dont think that my Xflow sump plug is....its brass!
Pembroke Pat
Do the magnet things work well or is that bull*hit ? ehh. surely what we have here are fins clamped to an oil filter. Fins increase the heat transfer area around the filter and should increase heat loss if there is an adequate air flow around the filter. I can't find anything else in the thread mentioning magnets!
