Snowy Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 OK, encourage my young-un's in the art of car appreciation I thought, keep them out of trouble, a worthwhile activity.. Two years ago, my daughter passed her test at 17, taught her myself, and she bought a VX Nova 1.0. Insurance £800.... OK, I thought, better start my son (15 at the time) saving for his so he does not get the same shock... Now, two years later, just got the insurance quote for an 1100 cc car...... bl**** £1600 squids!!!! How do all the kids I see on the roads today afford that. Keep away from any boys in cars, they ain't insured I tell you.... Just off to cool down, anyone got ant idea for chaep insurance??? Quote
oioi Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Just off to cool down, anyone got ant idea for chaep insurance??? footman james will do limited mileage third party (no fire or theft) on cars over ten years old. you may have to be over a certain age or have had a license for a cerating period of time to get the policy tho other solution is buy a practical classic - mg midget/spitfire etc. again cheap insurance plus mechanical knowledge will come as part of the deal Quote
Snowy Posted November 13, 2003 Author Posted November 13, 2003 Yes, £1601 for TPFT with CSMA. Next best was 2100 from Tesco. No one would consider anything above a group two car, so this put out the classic options. He does need the car to travel a few miles, reliabily, so old vehicles are out of the question. Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Buy him an old kit car and then fit new bits like plugs leads etc, should be reliable. Insurance sub £ 500. Just bought a Dutton for my son Luke, great project and set of wheels at the end. He seems happy too Quote
Mark Stanton Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 That'll be two Duttons in the SS then Quote
JonnyBoy Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 i was paying 150 tpft on my 1972 AH Sprite at 17...and it was undoubtedly (imo ) the coolest car out of all my mates! Gotta be the way fwds methinks Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 At least it might give you someone else to be able to beat Mark, mind if you had seen how he drove at last nights Karts you might change your mind on that one I'll let you persued him on Sat Quote

Westfields Rock On Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 im 17. I have taken the classic route. Got a '73 GT6 2ltr straight 6 with stage 2 head worth £4.5k it is only £900 limited mile tpft thankyou mr FJ. Quote
craig-c Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 What i have found is that if you protect your no claims bonus put the car in your name and insure it so that they are a named driver, they are not suppossed to drive it all the time but works out cheaper in the long run and if you have problems with your car use there's your insured Quote
studbuckle Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Just bought a Dutton for my son Luke, great project and set of wheels at the end. He seems happy too Cool .... and it keeps him away from 'da-Busa' Quote

PhilD Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 My advice to any new drivers is to avoid the temptation to be a tw*t on the road and keep your nose clean for a few years. In the end it should give you a litle respect for other road users. Taking a little time out to look at what is going on around you on the road instead of driving like a prat with you foot to the floor should make you smoother and better driver. After the insurance companies learn to love you you can start looking at the cars you've always wanted, at 21 I built a 'blade. This is the advice I have instilled (beat) into my 17 year old brother. Messer Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 There is a company called Quotebusters in Essex, who were very cheap when I insured my cars at 17/18. am 22 now so things may well have changed! Sorry I dont have the number but a quick 118118 should see you right.. Quote
