JonnyBoy Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Who uses what? barclays are a 250 quid setup, 13 quid monthly management fee, 3.3% commission OUCH. Are there any independant services out there? Cheap Cheap please... Quote
westy Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Website trading? Either way none of them are cheap. The 250 quid is both the setup fee and normally the cost for someone to turn up on your doorstep and check you haven't got three heads. It also depends on what you are selling. Due to the high number of folded computer business's they are deemed as high risk and you end up paying extra for them to cover that risk. The commission is based on expected transaction value and volume. The sales rep should suggest you over estimate to get a better rate. If you are doing an internet site bear in mind you will eventually get hit with a flood of hooky credit cards purchases for items costing 250 quid plus (not worth them bothering otherwise) normally for shipping directly to hotels or export companies. To filter them out you have to increase the security checking during credit card transactions such as having the same billing address and delivery address as the card is registered to. This as an example, then manages to filter out real customers quite often If you process a hooky card and don’t refund it in time you end up with a chargeback which typically is an extra £15 to process. I'm using Lloyds and Protx. Will dig out the costs for you... Quote
westy Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 The paypal commisions are horrible, apart from that it's a good service... Quote
studbuckle Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 barclays are a 250 quid setup, 13 quid monthly management fee, 3.3% commission That's by no means expensive and will not give you and CV2 or AVS verification (Signature code and Address postcode matching). It compares favourably with the cost of raising an invoice and being paid in a random number of working days though. If you look at the prices that Datacash charge you'll see what expensive is. However the service the offer is much improved over what a bank service will offer. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 Tried a number of services now.. Streamline, Optimal, Worldpay, none of them will help unless we own the property that we sell holidays in! Is it worth that outlay to enable peple to pay for a holiday by CC as opposed to Cheque? Quote
adhawkins Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 There's also NoChex, slightly cheaper than PayPal I think. Not used them myself. Andy Quote
westy Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Is it worth that outlay to enable peple to pay for a holiday by CC as opposed to Cheque? Depends if your customers want to pay by CC to get the accompanying insurance Quote
Rick S Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Is it worth that outlay to enable peple to pay for a holiday by CC as opposed to Cheque? Depends if your customers want to pay by CC to get the accompanying insurance ....and if the punters want to pay by CC to hedge their bets just in case the business goes under. Not sure how many people would consider that a reason for requesting payment by cc tho. BTW - most "last minute" places just pass the cost on - why not just do that? O/T Nice site JonnyBoy & for a smart looking place. Just heading out on the old i-drivel to attempt to shed my winter's accumulation of padding & whilst grinding through the Cheshire mud I will be working out ways of booking a trip over the pond... Cheers Rich Quote
JonnyBoy Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 BTW - most "last minute" places just pass the cost on - why not just do that? sorry.. what do you mean? I am setting up a trustee account that holds all funds until the guets holiday is completed. Hopefully this should help reassure guests.. not that we plan on going under anyhow WSCC discounts apply and all that Quote
Boxy Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I used to be the e-commerce master for a web host: We used datacash, protx, worldpay, netbanx, SECpay, and ePDQ Quote
gee_fin Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I believe PayPal's IPN module allows payment direct from Credit Cards (without a PayPal account). Will be setting it up over the weekend and will let you know. Only downside is 3-4.5% fees but it makes up for that with it's user friendliness/ease of implementation. Graeme. Quote

gee_fin Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Hmmm....that's what I initally believed (it was the messaging back and forth) but have since been informed it now supports accountless credit card transactions...*rubs chin* Will know more when I hook it up to the site later on. Quote
