Dear all,

I would like to ask you a confirmation of the following section taken from the DVLA web page,

What if I take my vehicle off the road?

If you are the keeper of a vehicle and you do not license it because you do not use it or keep it on a public road, you must tell us as soon as you take the vehicle off the road. Telling us about this is called declaring SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification). This also applies if you have recently purchased a vehicle and the previous keeper has declared SORN. Once you have made a SORN declaration you will be sent an acknowledgement letter within 4 weeks confirming the details. If the acknowledgement letter is not received after 4 weeks you must immediately contact Customer Enquiries Group on 0870 240 0010.

You only need to make a SORN for a vehicle that had a licence in force on or after 31 January 1998.

Is it true that I only need to make a SORN declaration if and only if my vehicle was first registered after the 31st January 1998? What exactly does this mean? My car was first registered in 1997 so?

Thanks in advance

It doesn't say registration, it says licence.  Therefore I'd assume that it is saying that if your vehicle has had a vehicle excise licence (tax disc) at any point since 1998, then it would need to be SORN'd if it doesn't have one now.

I would have thought they mean if your car was taxed (licensed) on that date or after, you need to fill out the SORN forms. The actual age of the car doesn't matter, it's purely whether the car's been taxed in the last seven years.

Drat, must type faster

You know what it's like Andy, toooooo many projects on the go at once! Tbh there's not even enough bits to make a full car so I've been sort of looking for a Q plate to canaballise...

Next project is sorting the wiring on Mr Websters car, fitting stack system etc, that should be fun......
