Chris.B Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 **********This Post Has Been Made By Chris.B's Son********** I want an Ipod and i know that itunes for windows is XP and 2K only. Not all of our P.C.'s have XP/2K so... 1. Does itunes have to be used - can files be transfered using windows explorer (The same as with a digital camera, USB pendrive etc.) 2. Are there any versions of itunes that work with windows ME. 3. Can it be done through media player 9 Chris.B's Eldest Son **********This Post Has Been Made By Chris.B's Son********** Quote

adhawkins Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 As far as I know, the official line will be that you have to use ITunes. There are various bits of software that will let you use Linux however. Tried a search on Google? There's bound to be a roaring trade in 'extra' programs for the IPod. For example, I've got one that lets you copy the music from the IPod (so you can use it as a means of transferring music from one place to another). Andy Quote

mogwi Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I think Musicmatch works, although I got rid when itunes got sorted Quote
adhawkins Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I couldn't get MusicMatch working when I got my Ipod. I still use MusicMatch for ripping (although I might start moving the whole thing to linux soone), but ITunes for downloading to the IPod. Works fine for me. Andy Quote
Del Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Look on Ipod Lounge. There are lots of forums where your questions are quite common. The archives contain very polarised views on the merits of MusicMatch versus iTunes. I used MM 7.5 to rip and transfer most of my CD collection satisfactorily. But then I "upgraded" to MM 8.2 and don't like it at all - especially the constant and b****y irritating exhortations to upgrade to version 9. My advice is to go with iTunes, but also load Ephpod (freeware) for smooth file management. Del Quote
a4gom Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 Ipod, don't do it. Get yer self an Iriver H320, these are the dogs .... . I've just downloaded a bit of firmware, a little bit of software and not only can I listen to music I can now watch dvd's. Just loaded the full series of Max n Paddy on its mint. Colour screen. Works just like a portable hard drive, drag and drop your files. You can even record straight to it from any source, the built in mic or the built in FM reciever. On top of all that you can download your pics direct from your camera to look at or empty your card if your away from home. Only downside is its slightly thicker than the ipod by a couple of mm. (Carbon look as well betterthan white!!) As you can tell I'm impressed. Quote
greeny Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 As you can tell I'm impressed. PMSL!! Andy you are seriously addicted to pictures! But it makes me laugh so keep them coming! Quote

Nick M Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 I love my Mac - none of this poncing about that all you PC users have to endure when using iPods, etc. I've got two iPods now - both just plug'n'play with iTunes. Lovely Quote
