TheRealMcNei11 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 My westie is in the garage getting it's clutch sorted (which just needed adjusted ) but it was also pulling to one side after I hit a kerb in a spin Garage just phoned and told me I've bent the top wishbone and although they could probably straighten it a bit it would be better replaced. Can I just order one from Westfield? How long should it take? The other thing is that they've noticed that the 2 ball joints are on in different ways, one is one way & one is the other. Could you let me know which way is right, & pictures/drawings if possible. Please help as it's going to be sunny this weekend and I have a trackday coming up soon too. Cheers Gav Quote
Blatman Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Replace it. It's a critical part. Westfield's phone number is 01384 400077. What do you mean by the ball joints being on different ways? If there is a picture, I can't see it 'cos they block the avatar service here at work Mail 'em to me at blatmanuk@yahoo.co.uk, and I'll have a shufty... Quote

What do you mean by the ball joints being on different ways? I don't really know, they said that one is one way up and the other is the other way. As you might tell I'm totally clueless but I did try a search. Quote
Blatman Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 They can't be one way up, one way down... Is it possible that they mean that one top ball joint seems to be nearer the front of the car than the other? If so, the wishbone that has the ball joint nearer the front is on back to front, and needs swivelling round 180 degrees... The top wishbones have unequal length arms. The long arm should be facing forwards... Quote

Could you let me know which way is right, & pictures/drawings if possible maybe track rod ends?? if so the nut should be on the top can't think of another ball joint that can be fitted incorrectly Please help as it's going to be sunny this weekend which country you in then certainly not the same one as me Quote
perksy Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Blatman, if he's got one wishbone the right way and one the wrong way the car would have been 'all over the place' for ages wouldn't it Quote
Arm Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Maybe they mean the lower ball joint and the side it is mounted to the lower wishbone ? Quote
TheRealMcNei11 Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 Ordered a new wishbone from westfield - 100 quid Haven't managed to speak with the garage again, but that sounds like it could be it. If it isn't I'll try & pop along and get a couple of photos. Thanks loads for the help. Quote
TheRealMcNei11 Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 which country you in then certainly not the same one as me Scotland I'm hoping it's going to be sunny or at least not rain or snow Pretty sure it's the ball joint since I wrote it down, wish they'd answer their phone. Quote
Tigger Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 A guy on the Essex forum is selling a complete set of front wishbones, not sure if you want a full set but may be worth checking out. Link is Essex Forum Tigger Quote

Is it some sort of firewall / cookie / referrer blocking that's going on, or they've blocked the whole site? What do you get if you try going to the avatar site yourself (as if you were going to upload something)? Drop me a PM if you want a hand trying to sort this out. Oh, and there wasn't a picture Andy Quote
Blatman Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 maybe track rod ends?? I like the thinking here too... Quote

What do you get if you try going to the avatar site yourself (as if you were going to upload something)? I get a "soft block" warning page, generated by the server here. It looks a bit like this: Access to this website is subject to reporting and possible restriction Reason: The Websense category "Personal Network Storage and Backup" is filtered. I also can't see any avatars hosted on the Gently servers for this reason, ie. theyr'e prevented from loading. So all I see is a white box next to usernames... Quote
adhawkins Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Just out of interest, what do you get if you go here or here. Andy Quote
