Nick.Petty Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Hi all, My homepage has been hijacked to "about blank" and refuses to go back to MSN default. Have tried spybot but no joy. Am running Windows XP with Zone alarm. Blinking Internet. Help! Quote
greeny Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Have a look in Start / Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs. You might find something which has been causing it in there but be VERY careful in what you delete. Are there any sites in your favourites which you haven't added or weren't there before? Other than that....I don't have a clue! Quote
Blatman Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Check the homepage settings in Tools > Internet Options Sounds like a piece of adware is trying to run itself when it sees an internet connection... The "About blank" bit of it is a Java routine used to open ads or other dialogue boxes with information or web type pages whilst browsing. In itself, it's neither harmful nor a security risk. Quote
scruffythefirst Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Install Mozilla Firefox and stop using Internet Explorer. Solves 99% of problems permanently Quote
davew Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 You may want to try the microsoft antispyware (beta) program Microsoft Antispyware In the advanced options there is a utility to fix browser hijacking. I have been using this for a while now and not had any problems with spyware. Also running windows xp sp2 Quote
Pete Collins Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 Use Xp's "System Restore" function to roll back to an earlier date. Quote
wrightster Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 there is a post on blatchat about this with details of how to remove it .... Quote
Blatman Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 That's a rather drastic solution. Sledgehammer/nut, etc... Quote
