Liam Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Can anyone confirm that the motoring friendly authorities have put SPECS cameras on the M4 in the Theale to Membury area Quote
Thrustyjust Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 I live in Thatcham and have not heard of this from mates who travel this daily.I will try and find out. Quote
Nick.Petty Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Autocar this week says "Motorists using the M4 can rest assured that the new variable message signs between junctions 12 and 14 do not carry SPECS cameras; the twin camera facility is in fact for CCTV". Is this the stretch that you are talking about ? Hope this helps. Nick. Quote
altval Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 Hi Liam, I do some work for a garage in Swindon.Last week they received an e mail WARNING them that the new electronoc signs on the M4(between J12 and J15) have SPECS.It is believed to be set to trigger a ticket at 78 MPH.SPECS is also entirely passive,so radar detectors don't work.Sorry to tell you this, but better safe than sorry. Chris.B Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 ....received an e mail WARNING them that the new electronoc signs on the M4(between J12 and J15) have SPECS.It is believed to be set to trigger a ticket at 78 MPH.SPECS is also entirely passive,so radar detectors don't work.... This mail has being doing the rounds since Oct 14th. It's a spoof. There is even a post on the Thames Valley police web site denying SPECS cameras are on this M4 stretch. You'll find lot of reference to this e-mail hoax across the usual driving mailing lists & chatrooms. Quote
RichardT Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 Yup. Had an e-mail at work this week warning of it. It apparantly surprises you with the ticket, without a single flash, or any human intervention. It is supposedly set at 78mph? Go careful! Quote
MikeB Posted October 26, 2003 Posted October 26, 2003 This story is complete rubbish. There are some SPECS cameras on the M4 but they are on Prescott's private bus lane at the Heston end. They are still covered up and have been for at least two years. These new signs just monitor traffic build up. There is an interesting article about this on the A B D web site. http://www.abd.org.uk/ Quote
