lewey Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 A friend would like to drive my vehicle in the championship in his own right in class B with myself. (I know closing date is tomorrow). Can someone briefly outline any rules regarding this- does he need to just send off his own app and we do all administration twice? Is this common in the series or are people a bit weary of letting others crash their car for them? I assume the car number won't need to change as and when different drivers are using the car? Quote
adhawkins Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Double drivers will get different numbers on the day. However, it's relatively common, and usually one driver will be (say) 42, and the other 142, so all you do is cover up the '1' when necessary. I imagine both need to register for the Speed Series, and when you enter individual events you need to inform them that the car will be double driven (so that they can allocate two numbers as above). V 8 Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Hi Lewey, Quite a lot of people double drive, you will find that the application form for all events caters for this, you will just have to pay twice the entry fee and just send of the one form. The events are always geared up for double drivers in terms of how you return the car to the second driver, you just want to be sure that you are happy with somebody else driving your car. Most people adopt a " if you bend it then you mend it" scenario with the proviso that if parts fail, it is a 50/50 basis. You just need to have an understanding with your second driver. adhawkins Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Type quicker Tommo Oh, care to defend my driving in the 'Is it a Morgan' thread in 'Chat'? Andy Quote
Rob Navin Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 You will both need to send an entry form in to the organising club. It is also possible for your double drive to insure the car while he is using it on track. This makes for a much easier post crash discussion should the worst happen Quote
lewey Posted February 18, 2005 Author Posted February 18, 2005 Thanks guys, all the info I need for now. Posting second app today first class! Hope it gets there for tommorrow morning! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 I'll wait for your application to land Closing date for entries to Speed Series is February 20 (Sunday) although should be o.k for Monday 21 ........... but that's it then and just to confirm that entries to the 2005 WSCC Speed Series have surpassed all previous years Quote
lewey Posted February 18, 2005 Author Posted February 18, 2005 DISASTSER! My absent minded mate hasn't got access to a computer until tomorrow and hasn't sent off his W.S.C.C. membership yet! Can he send both forms in same package tomorrow special delivery and be OK? Just when I though I cut it fine a couple of weeks ago! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Nope please don't put them into same envelope cos it'll screw up "the system" Membership needs to got to Membership Sec and SS registration needs to go to address noted on form to the SS admin services But its no problem - cos you won't receive your confirmation until SS admin check with Memb Sec for your Memb reg and as long as they are received at the various addresses ........... technology takes over *raises eyebrow* SS registration has been open since last November 2004 that's 3 months a quarter of a year and yer mate leaves it until last day tut tut tut Quote
adhawkins Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 technology takes over Technology? What, you mean that new fangled telephone thingy? Andy Quote

Is this common in the series or are people a bit weary of letting others crash their car for them? I assume the car number won't need to change as and when different drivers are using the car? I have been um’ing and r’ing about posting this but decided to ‘cos it hasn’t been mentioned before here… Double drives are fine as long as the car owner and the second driver accept from the start what the risks are and what the consequences are. Simple questions like: If the engine grenades when one of you is driving who is responsible and will pay for replacement? If the car is wrapped round a bit of scenery what happens? Can the double driver afford and be willing to pay for the damage he/she causes... It’s all basic stuff that can fall under the category of ‘mates rates’ but if you don’t iron it out before you start competing together my advice would be not to compete together... If you can't come to agreement before hand on responsibilities the second driver should look to cover your car with insurance (and pay the excess if the worst happens), if their not prepared to do that then it leaves a gaping hole for dispute and fall outs, making it a fruitless exercise. You are dealing with 10k+ cars so it’s not something to be taken lightly. If it’s all decided and sorted then its great fun, same car with reasonably the same conditions may the best/luckiest man win! Keith. Quote
scott beeland Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 That's the very reason I turned down the couple of(hugely generous) offers of double drives I had last season when my car was misbehaving. I didn't want to be the one to wreck someone elses car....even if I did know one of them really well....Would have had no qualms in paying up for damage caused etc....but it's always easier to shoulder potential big repair bills for your own midememenours in your own car. I also didn't want the responsibility/guilt/misfortune to be the one who caused someone else to have a premature end of season through no fault of their own. Double drive is a very generous thing to do...and I'd have no problem offering double drives in my car to people I trusted...on the usual you bend it/you mend it proviso. On the other hand...If your double drive manages to plant it in the scenery through component failure or the car just lets go due to failure then obviously agreements can be made on who's liable for what. In this instance I'd probably accept that the bulk(if not all) the bill was mine(in a "my car" scenario) Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Double drives can be an advantage as you get double the driver input as to how the car handles. but as mrs westy wisely says sort out the details first Me an my Brother have a simple agreement break something minor i.e wishbone etc and you payfor it Break something major half each chassis related Break an engine half each Go for it Usually the second driver drives the car fairly gently cos it's not his car (erm this doesn't include our case as witnesses will prove) Quote
