geelhoed Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Try a linux OS, You'll never see a blue screen or Rundll32 again! Quote
Blatman Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 If you get the option to end task, then end it now. No need to wait. You may get other programmes that give you the same problem, but just click "End now" each time... Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Or press the on/off button and hold in for 10 secs ? Quote
Steven (WE51STE) Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Well if people will keep supporting the Micro$oft Empire by purchasing inferior / unreliable products... The future is black and white... The future is a penguin... The future is free... Quote
chalky Posted February 18, 2005 Author Posted February 18, 2005 What are you lot on today? What is linux OS? I do have to press "end now" to shut it down, but does anybody know why it keeps poping up and how i can get rid of the stupid thing. scott Quote
Blatman Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Not sure how to get it to stop because it's difficult to know precisely what programme is causing it to hang. Rundll is *I think* a basic piece of programming that windows uses when programmes run. It's not limited to a single programme, so it could be any number of applications that's causing it, including a piece of spyware or other tracking software that you may have downloaded inadvertently. You could *try* downloading and running Spybot and/or Adaware. I haven't found many problems that these programmes won't fix when it comes to annoyances like this... FWIW, last time I had an issue similar to this, it turned out to be a piece of spyware that was trying to keep IE open so that it could dowload my browsing habits. It would hang the PC for 60 secs on shutdown, then I'd get the "...not responding" dialogue box, but without the actual programme being identified which was damn annoying. Spybot fixed it... Quote
adhawkins Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Have you installed any new software recently (assuming the problem has only started recently)? If so, try un-installing it and see if the problem goes away. Andy Quote
chalky Posted February 18, 2005 Author Posted February 18, 2005 Hello all i have installed is the new norton antivirus from 2004 to 2005. i have run the microsoft Antispyware but that came up with nothing as well .. thanks for your replies though scott Quote
adhawkins Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Hello all i have installed is the new norton antivirus from 2004 to 2005. Try uninstalling this temporarily then? Andy Quote
Blatman Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Be careful. When I fiddle with Norton programmes I *always* have problems, unless I do all of the un-installing/installing with the PC in safe mode. Once I discovered this, installing and un-installing Norton has become much less fraught... Quote
adhawkins Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Just an aside, but after reading of other peoples problems with Norton, I decided to go for McAfee...never had a problem with it. Andy Quote
Camel_Landy Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Hello all i have installed is the new norton antivirus from 2004 to 2005. Your first fatal mistake Mr. Bond.... M Quote
Richgm Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Just an aside, but after reading of other peoples problems with Norton, I decided to go for McAfee...never had a problem with it. Got to say that I've used 3 versions of Norton now. First one was great then, each one has been worse than the last. I'm not going to use it again. Might try McAfee unless there's something else that catches my eye. Got until May when my sub runs out. Quote
