What oil for 2L Zetec

I guess I can't drive the search engine as I failed to find anything useful......

So what's the view on engine oil for the 2l Zetec? I happened to see some Mobil 1 with £15 off so bought it, but at 0W40 I thought it might be the wrong viscosity (says for  modern multi valve engines err don't they all have more than 1 valve??!!;). Should I take it back and stick with 5W30?

Costco sells this very cheap - but I was afraid it was too thin so I bought the proper stuff from Ford. Maybe someone else will know if it is Ok.

why to thin

modern engines like thin oil

0w 40 is actually thinner when cold, and thicker when hot when compared to 5w 30...

Zetecs run on semi-syn 5w 30.I run mine on Comma stuff and a renault filter amounts to £20 a yearly service. My engine had magnatec 10w 40 in it when I got it and I had permanent massive oil pressure, which never backed off, even at tickover and it ran like a tight engine.Put the 5w30 in and revved better, had 2.5 bar hot at tick over and still 4.5 when running.

Everyone has their own personal preference on this subject but I stick with the 5W-30 grade & use Valvoline Synpower, it's a good quality fully synthetic, costs 20 quid for 4 litres. Recommended by Raceline and many others for zetecs in particular.

I use havoline fully synthetic  but then I do get it from the Oil rrefineries sports and social club for £10 for 5 litres

I also use Valvoline Synpower 5-30. And at just over £18 for 4l from my local motor factors I think its pretty good value for money.

i was looking in the motor factors as i need to do an oil change.. GTX Magnatec fully synthetic is $$, is it worth it?

valvoline racing oils is similar $$, mobil1 is a bit cheaper.. halfrauds own and other brand oil are half that of the 'high spec' oils.. but is a high spec oil worth it?

My car is a 1800 zetec on twin 40's, runs cool due to the stoopid raceline waterrail and is driven in a lively fashion usually.

its too hard to choose.

To me it depends on a combination of how you drive it, what conditions (ie all year round or summer only) and how often you change the oil.

I personally choose to use the valvoline fully synthetic because although the car doesn't get driven that hard the oil will be reaching higher temperatures than a normal zetec in a mondeo etc as it's revving higher, I only really use it in the heat of summer and drop the oil once a year.

Added to this is the cost of the oil, not much in it really so the extra protection of fully synthetic is not going to break the bank, oh and it is recommended by a fair few people.

Go on treat it to the good stuff!
