duncansaunders Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 Does anyone know if the standard fuel tank on the Westfield parts site will fit in a 1992 Narrow SE? Is the capacity 28 litres? Only getting about 70 miles from a tank that I can only get 18 litres into! Quote
Blatman Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 What sort of tank do you have? Are you filling up when the gauge says empty? If so, I'd be willing to bet that the gauge isn't properly calibrated at all. IIRC, the narrow tank is 6 gallons (roughly 30 litres). I have no idea what the capacity of a wide body tank is though, mostly because I have an accurate gauge and just fill it when the warning light comes on... Quote
Ady1 Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 I have a narrow body, and presumably the same tank because I have excatly the same problem - 75miles to a tank. I know mine is foam filled though which will obviously reduce the capacity. Quote
Rob Navin Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 The tank in my original SE was a cut down steel mini van tank which which I believe was the common tank at the time. The new one had a Westfield ali tank in it when I got it. As I recall this was the wide body tank as WF only make one type. The dents in the rear of the tank where the rear suspension bolts were did not lie up with the bolts but aside from that there was no other mismatch form the tank. It would be worth giving the factory a call to check the dimmensions though. Rob Quote
David Alexander Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 I have a related question on fuel tanks. I have the standard tank fitted to my wide bodied car, but would like to retro fit the larger 45ltr tank to extend the range between petrol stations. How big a job is this, ie how much body work needs to be removed, and what impact does it have on the back of the car. For example to you loose the boot? Thanks David A Quote
Rob Navin Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 As I understand it you would need to fit the Long range boot box which is a stepped afair with less boot space. The only other thing you may have to look at is if you are running a rear anti roll bar if that would be in the way. I don't think it would but you should check. I don't think there should be any other problems. Rob Quote
markl Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 I did a conversion and it also requires a new fuel tank sender,. (If the old one has been cut down,) but that is obvious… isn’t it..? Quote
chazpowerslide Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 The tank dimensions for the narrow and wide cars are the same, I mede the same enquiry to Westfield about 18 months ago. Chaz. Quote

The tank is rectangular in section and fitted so that the top is not level. The breather is on the low (front) edge of the tank and so won't breathe if the tank is more than about 80% full. The feed pipe is on the upper (rear) edge of the tank and so I guess that it can't pick up the last 20% of the contents! My fuel gauge does not work - new VDO gauge with unknown sender. I have run out of fuel, luckily at home, twice, and know that all i can get in is 18 litres for about 70 miles. Will probably get a new one from the factory but just wondered if anyone had any words of wisdom. Cheers Duncan Quote
