Fitting PK Seat

Recommended Posts

My new wide seat from Plays Kool arrived this afternoon :D and I want to get someone to fit it.

I was told that I should bolt it to the floor then secure it at the back to stop flex.  I was also told that I'd be sent everything to I need to fit it but only got the seat a an extra bit to brace it (flat bit of grp, almost cut to shape of back of seat)  :( .

So how do I go about fitting it, or rather someone for me?

I take it I'll need some bolts but what kind?  Some kind of metal to spread the load on the car?  Will the bolts just go through the lip at the front?  How does the brace at the back get fitted?

As you might be able to tell I'm totally clueless about this kind of stuff so any help would be appreciated :durr: .Also going to phone Plays Kool.

I made this to hold the rear ridgid and bolted the front to the floor

I can do this work for you just depends where in the UK you are or prepared to travel

Fitted mine last weekend... you'll need a couple of meters of 25mm box section and I used some 50mm allen bolts... (M8).

Cut the box section to length. Drilled some holes through the floor/box and voila! If you're anywhere near Hampshire drop by and I'll give a hand...

Unfortunately I'm in Edinburgh :bangshead:  and noone up here seems to have same seat.

I'm going to give Plays Kool a call in the morning and drop it off at my friends garage.  I'm sure it can't be too hard, think I might just let him figure it out.  I'll make sure I don't leave him too much petrol though :)

That bracket looks really nice but since they sent me the extra grp (& I paid etra for it  :durr:  ) I think I'll try and just use it.  If It's going to be a nightmare I'll give you a buzz.

Cheers.

Don't worry, its not a nightmare.

Perhaps the best thing to do is give Paul a ring at Playscool when you are at your local garage.  I'm sure he wont mind talking to the guys there to shed a bit of light on it for them.

I have used the GRP frback rest on a couple of seats that I have fitted and it works very well indeed.  I will need to be shaped whne the seat is in postiton and fixed to your liking.

I'm in the process of fitting a pair to my car, but don't want any potentially intrusive pieces of metal near my spine or neck.

Consequently I shall bolt the bottom front edge of the seat to the floor and then use two strips of 25 x 3mm Dural (bent to form an 'L' shape) to support the rear edge of the seat at the sides from the top face of the rear cross member (i.e. where the harness eye bolts are fitted).

My theory is that the Dural supports are frangible and, should the seat break, will bend rather than intrude into the space where the seat was.

Probably a bit OTT from the safety point of view, but should pass a hazard analysis.....

Spoke to Plays Kool, I'm really impressed with them & the seat.  They managed to explain things clearly so that I could understand & was able to tell the guys at the garage.  I've certainly made them work for their money.  Anyway seat is getting put in tommorrow so I'm pretty chuffed. :D
