Monkeylegend Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Got a guy in France interested in buying my Westfield. I have told him that I think he may experience problems in getting it registered in France. Has anybody done this before or know how it can be achieved? Can't upgrade until mine is sold and the guy is very keen to buy, so any advice would be gratefully received. Quote

jeff oakley Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 It cannot be done I am afraid. The French, chose which bits of European law they will obey, the one where a car which has been SVA tested and registerd in the UK being accepted Europe wide, they don't. According to Holly at Westfield they cannot get any registerd even built with all new parts. Only one is known to be registered to a French Guy who is the mate of the mayor. Cateringvan thingys are accepted because they are fully type approved. The way round is to claim to return to the UK with it every 4 or 5 months keeping it reged to a UK address. Quote
oioi Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Cateringvan thingys are accepted because they are fully type approved. if you buy a car from caterham dont they take it and do sva for you Quote
jeff oakley Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 You may be corect but the car is still type approved and that is what counts for the French. I met a guy when I was last in France who had a Caterham on order from the factory, it is possible that only factory built counts for importation, but even factory built Westfield cannot get in. Monkeylegend Posted February 12, 2005 Author Posted February 12, 2005 Thanks for the advice. It confirms what I thought. Maybe I will have to stick a Caterham badge on it. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Cateringvan thingys are accepted because they are fully type approved. if you buy a car from caterham dont they take it and do sva for you Factory built westfields are fully type approved and dont need sva inspection... right? Quote
jeff oakley Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 No they are approved as a low volume vehicle which is different. The Caterham like all cars type approved are subjected to the crash test which Westfield never did, although several members of the speed series have done this for westfield Quote

Mind you the way they treat their cars over there nobody will notice. Puts the upgrade on hold for a while I suppose. Quote
