karlgurney Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 I keep seeing people asking for advice on what new car to buy and read them with interest, so i thought i would have a go and ask the rest of the WSCC for there advice, I'm not really into buying new cars and rarely want to spend over £800 on a car to just drive to work and back and maybe 300-500 miles a month on the motorway. I've seen a few of the cavalier gls i's going for silly money like £300. I would idealy like a 16v motor which one is better to go for? the gls or the sri? Cheers Karl Quote
zoso Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 my dad had two SRi's when they were new... pretty much bulletproof They did however get nicked, both of them, the ignition barrel sized solid on the second one on a especially hot day in the south of france. And the exhaust rattled after a french railways employee bounced the car off a train... quick tho. Quote
S8ight Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 last time i went to the auctions they where giving cav's away free with bacon butties Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Like karl says bullet proof really , watch for g'box drive train on high miles examples . I ran a Glsi. bit heavier then the Sri and a bit softer suspension but quite fast . f/r arbs as standard but the worst part was the steering ,low geared and no power assist Insurance is silly for what you pay for em and 30 mpg is tops . karlgurney Posted February 10, 2005 Author Posted February 10, 2005 I used to have a 8v sri about 5 years ago and loved it great car, looking to get a 16 valver whats the big difference between the redtop and the ecotec engines i'm not to fussed about mpg really if i was spending £15k plus on a car then maybe it would be a factor but when you only spend a few hundred quid on a car you can afford the extra petrol costs thats the way i see it Quote
Big Bad Ben Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 This is what you want! Not a chavalier, but it is 16v and injected AND you can take the roof off £895 ono (discount for WSCC members! ) Sorted BBB Quote
