adhawkins Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 she has my upmost respect That's 'utmost' Andy Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Any one who goes southern ocean cape horn in a small boat gets my respect ! OK B&Q isn't exactly a dingy but can any of you guys imagine what it takes. Out there alone thousands of miles from land pushing the boat and yourself to the edge! And Buzz I'm amazed at your comments. The French offshore racers are ALL National Heros. Seems like most Brits are ashamed of personal achievement The Nimrod is up there weather its flying out to a boat mid atlantic or not, it still costs to keep the thing running whatever. Quote
david.c Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Well spotted Andy...........I put that in as a test David Quote
taffy Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Hmmm I cant stand 10 minutes in B&Q never mind 71 days! Yup she is a real hero. Rob Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Make that a Nimrod and a Destroyer She has my upmost respect and Congratulations. Hope she breaks a few more records with the boat Quote
PeterOz Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 cost us tax payers an Arm and a leg to send an RAF Nimrod from Kinloss on a 3 hour journey to see if she was ok?? And exactly where is the (extra) cost to the taxpayer? The aircrew? They still had to be paid whether they were looking for her or not. Fuel? So the RAF don't make training flights anymore? Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 cost us tax payers an Arm and a leg to send an RAF Nimrod from Kinloss on a 3 hour journey to see if she was ok?? I'm suprised Peter. Its so obvious your obviously ex-forces who incidentally are basically immune to what 'cost' mean. As 'we' the tax payers tend to foot all the bills. The fact that the RAF had to travel out of British waters WAS the cost. As for the training that’s what a cost effective 'sim' is for and I suppose your argument is "It ain't the same as flying the real thing blah, blah, blah... & Yes they are getting paid so stick them in the 'sim' for the training rather than sending them out of British territorial waters along with the cost of the fuel to do so, plus cycles on the air frame, hours on the engines, systems etc, etc, etc they should send a bill to B&Q.for the use of public hardware. All B&Q would do is pass the cost on to the customer in the end i.e. me so what’s the point…. so send the bl**ding Nimrod it will be good training for the RAF sky jockeys; who should be disbanded anyway a long with all the armed forces...for wasting tax payers money.... Frau Vesty Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I take it you're not a big fan of Prince Andrew either, then Quote
PeterOz Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Ah, now that really is a waste of tax payers money!! Quote
Frau Vesty Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 You mean the Daily Mail did a piece of accurate reporting Quote
GuyH Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Hang on, I'm confused. For clarity, is sending an RAF Nimrod from Kinloss on a 3 hour journey to drop Prince Andrew in the sea a waste of tax payers' money or not ? Quote
PeterOz Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 The French offshore racers are ALL National Heros. Ellen probably just as much of a hero to the French. The boat is only B&Q on one side (starboard), port side is branded for Costarama - B&Q's french subsidiary. Sponsorship agreement was that we only see the B&Q side on TV while the French only see the Costarama side. So as well as sailing the boat, she was making reports and interviews to the UK in English, and to French media in French - I'm impressed Quote

No, best use of taxpayers money for a long time - in fact there's room in a nimrod for more than one Quote
steppenwolf Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Now I'm confused ....So, let's get this right then .... Are you saying that Prince Andrew flew a Nimrod from Kinross to B & Q keeping to starboard all the way to avoid the French and that the Daily Mail reported the event accurately? If so, this sounds like a perfectly acceptable use of public funds? Quote
