neilwillis Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Hats off to a fantastic achievement. Makes you proud to be a B&Q customer! Quote
greeny Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Yup, very impressive stuff! Makes you proud to be british. btw, i think it's Ellen, not Helen. Quote
Mike H Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Depends which side of the channel you're on. The British side of the boat is sponsored by B&Q the other side by some French co. also owned by KingFisher. British TV are only allowed to show the B&Q side!! Yes she did well to get round, but it's just a money making exercise IMO. I'll get my coat. Quote
darthurs Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Bet she cheated! Probably just sailed round the north pole then came back! Joking aside she has done well. Dan Quote

Buzz Billsberry Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 And that point of her journey?? and especially when it cost us tax payers an Arm and a leg to send an RAF Nimrod from Kinloss on a 3 hour journey to see if she was ok?? A waste of time for a whinging old sea dog Buzz Quote
davidgh Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Probably just sailed round the north pole then came back! It was the South Pole. North is too difficult. Really Quote
steppenwolf Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Fantastic achievement for anyone male or female. From now on I am going to buy all my silicone sealant from B&Q. On the subject of cheating, looking at her route rather reminds me of the Falkland Island exclusion Zone drawings, not exactly circular but then land sailing is difficult on a tri .... Quote

Fat Albert Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Don't care for the hype but I do think she has guts, climbing a 70ft mast in 40kts of wind in 20ft seas in the antartic ocean knowing if she survives the fall she'd 30s in the water before freezing... She's not the most outgoing is she, I can't imagine what it would be like to spend 70 days in the company of a miserable mysogynist... but I reckon another woman who could relate to the experience might be Mrs Buzz Quote
steve_m Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 We ought to be encouraging people like her, she's done exceptionally well. We need more people like her ! Quote
